Ive already lost a week in a half out riding becuase of this stupid o-ring. I had to take my gas pump/filter out of my tank last weekend dont ask
and I can not get the damn o-ring on that goes around the pump/filter, this rubber o-ring is such a pain it just keeps falling off the filter callor the o-ring is so tight it wont stay and whenever I get the o-ring to stay on it pops off due to you need to put a metal o-ring over the entire thing to lock it down on the gas tank for a proper seal so the tank wont leak all over. I know this is a very un commen part to even take out, I dont know is there some kind of adhesive that can go on the o-ring so it will stay on??? Did it come from yamaha with some sort of adhesive??? If there is some kind of adhesive that someone knows about that wont have any effect on my fuelie's or just gas in general please do tell. Im about to give up on this season and play a little golf.

Thank you for any info

There's really two options;
1) use a gas-resistant silicon, available at your local auto-parts store.
2) use regular wheel bearing grease. Its sticky enough to hold an o-ring in place long enough to put pressure on it.

Best guess, the o-ring is swolen/shrunk from gas exposure. When you do a fuel pump in a car, they usually come with a new o-ring for that reason. The grease trick may work, but a new o-ring may be the least aggrevating way. See if your dealer can get one to compare your old one to.

If you are near an Industrial supply - Gears, Bearings, etc. They will have the best choice for upgraded ORing.
A square cut Viton could end the frustration.
Bring the upper collar 7 with you to size it.
Silicone grease is the best holding compound, which is what's used on ignition systems. Sparkplug boots, and wires.
