I've got a skill tester for all the clutch gurus out there. After I ran the air filter outside the hood on my 05 RX mtn (Mpi stage 1), I picked up a considerable amount of power. In fact, my track started to ratchet. I also noticed quite a bit more belt heat which I blamed on more power. I checked the alignment on the clutches just to be sure, and it was out by a lot! So a quick search of this thread tells me to get a Sled-pro tool and I find the procedure to realign. Now, Yamaha and the tech support on this site both say to set the pullys paralell. The sled-pro tool comes with three spacers which are to align with the fixed half of the primary, and behind the top and front spacer are 1 and 2mm washers. The spacers are all the same length so this setting would ensure the engine is slightly cocked in the mounts. My question is this, (finally) which method is correct? Parallel or slightly askew? Any and all comments are welcome, I have two new belts to break in before the weekend and just want to make sure I don't abuse them!! Thanks guys :yam: :rocks:

I guess I have a Team secondary , so I used their alignment bar and aligned it parallel , spec should be less than .060 difference between front and back of the fixed side of the primary ,I got mine to .019 by adjusting the three motor mount threaded bushings, mind you this is on an apex . I have no belt issues .

I am very familiar with the Sled Pro alignment tool, I use it regularly.
With the 4 strokes you take out the offset washers and just use the 3 same length legs to align you clutches.

They should be even with back of primary when secondary washer is correct.

Ted.

Thanks Ted, I was hoping you would chime in! Spacers are coming out and it will be set up parallel! All the best on your racing this winter, your kids rock!! I hope when my son gets older I can get him in some form of racing. ;)! :flag:
