So as part of my upgrade for the 2011 season I’m installing a reverse kit on the MTX. As luck would have it I got a smoking deal on a new in the box kit from my local dealer.
The kit I got was an 8FP-W4759-03-00, which comes with a 38-tooth drive sprocket as opposed to the 40-tooth drive sprocket in the kit for the MTX. The kit is also for an Apex RTX.
Here’s the question: Are there any future problems I might experience running a 38-tooth sprocket versus the 40?
The engine is stock by the way and did I mention I got a smoking deal on the reverse kit yet?

Less performance in deep snow especially at higher altitudes.

You will most likely have to clutch your gear ratio assuming your top gear is 21 tooth went from 1.90 to 1.80. You will see a higher top end as well. If you were touching the rev limiter which I am assuming you may have been at WOT you may be just fine. I say try it and see.
Just run 1 tooth smaller on the top and it will be pretty equivlent.

only works if your chaine allows for it, if you need a new chain and top gear the good deal may not be that goodpro116 said:Just run 1 tooth smaller on the top and it will be pretty equivlent.

I have my MTX geared at 1.8 and liked it with stock clutching. I still had the power in the deep snow but gained 5-10 mph on flat land. still didn't help with gas mileage because I was still running high rpms. I have since reclutched and waiting for snow to test.

As luck would have it, my local dealer is going to switch out the 38-tooth gear with a 40. Life is good!
I guess buying a new Grizzly, and all the parts to fix my blown Viper engine from them is paying off in this case!
