An honest opinion on Pilot Skis ?

Mine worked GREAT!! But they do push alittle bit. The darting is ok now!

You say they push a little. Would you say they are better or worse than the stock Yamaha skis. I didn't notice a whole lot of pushing with the Yamaha's, and I had the darting cured. What I really want it a little more flotation and a little better off trail handling.

From what I am hearing, the Pilot's aren't great in the loose snow or off trail. But they honestly can't be as bad as the stock yammi skis in the loose.

The front end of my sled dives under the snow all the time in the powder.

I could go to a powder ski, but I'd prefer to keep a good all-around ski on the sled.

I had powder pros on WAY WAY to much of a ski on this sled. Stock darted to much for me. The 5.7 do push in the lose snow in the turns.

Skydog P.S. The 5.7 push more than the stock skis.

I have a set of pilots. All Black. bought new in March of 07. Maybe 5 or 600 miles on them, new center carbides with 45 miles on them, plus extra carbides. Make me an offer. Highest bidder wins.

I have not tried Pilot's on a Yammie but I can see why the Doo guys are not fond of them on Doo's.

I spent 50 miles or so on an 08 xp 800 on the weekend. [Buddy and I switched sleds on several occassions.]

XP had Pilots with single 8 " carbide, front springs 2 up from soft, 120 1.75" studs.

The pilot ski was DANGEROUS in crusty powder. Worst ski in that condition I have ever experienced.

The ski darted something fierce on a well rutted narrow trail. Approached dangerous, but just nasty.

Following my Apex it darted as well on a regular groomed trail..

It was great leading on a normal trail. Good grip and no darting but steering was heavy compared with the Apex. [ Who would of thunk it?]

Compared to my Apex with 4.5" Deuce bars on stock shimmed skis and 96 studs, the XP with the Pilots was just awful in most conditions with the Pilots.

We have nothing to complain about compared to the 2008 Doo boys Pilot Ski handling IMHO.

Like I said. this is the 08 Version on a 08 Doo not a Yammie. Given that, I give them a big thumbs down.

Using Pilot skis with only one carbide is like only putting two spark plugs in your three cylinder engine. :o| The reason they don't dart is because of the 2 carbides. One carbide on Pilots won't be any better against darting than your stock Yamaha skis without the Deuce bars.

Ah, I might have to bite the bullet and get those white C&A pro ADX's I was eying up today.

I had C & A's and I hated them. Way to much ski for these sleds. Made my sled more tippy and it still darted as bad. I have the 5.7 pilots now and I love them. They eliminate 90% of darting, ease the steering and they are way cheaper.

Yep same here!!

Duel carbide pilots put the stock yammy ski's to shame.

For darting I'm sure you're right, but what about pushing in the corners?
Have you tried the Curves yet?

They carve awesome on anything other than loose snow and powder. You can't have it all you know. Either your carving on loose powder and darting on hardpack or the opposite, you can't have both.
