Another slide thread, should I replace?

awesome do you have a part number or web link to order them from? if they are a great option I would like to have access to them for the future.

I purchased my Kimpex idler wheels from Dennis Kirk and they list a different OEM part number. Here is a link to post I made last year about these idler wheels and the ones I used on my 08 Apex LTX and the ones I used on my 18 Apex XTX. Initially, I thought the one I had used on my 08 would work on my 18 but found the 18 uses a narrower bearing. Fortunately, Kimpex made a 135mm idler wheel using the narrower bearing and both part numbers, as well as pictures, are included in this link:

definitely replace your wheels with X wheels it will solve your problem. with X wheels you can run stock slides for thousands of miles. add cable style ice scratchers and it will prolong them even more and you can just leave them down all the time. my first set of slides didn't last 500 miles then I bought duponts and got 1500 miles out of them. then I put X wheels on and graphite slides 19.99 a piece. the sled now has 7200 miles on it and I am not changing them this year either. that's 5200 miles on graphite slides and 2000 miles it had a supercharger on it. I have a new set of Duponts to put on and have had them for years I just don't see any reason to change them when they are still good. if you are going through the work or getting those center wheels out replace them with X wheels money well spent. Talk to Travis at BOP he normally has used ones for a great price. just do all 6 you wont be disappointed.
I Have the x wheels on mine and no wear since

Thanks always looking for quality ways to save a buck.

A few post back I mentioned having trouble getting out the set screws for the front center idler wheels. I tried a regular torch to heat them (I have been told they have red loctite from the factory?) but it was really too big as it was heating the idler wheels and everything else (don't like burning plastic smell :). Anyway I bought a micro torch from Harbor Freight for 13 bucks and that worked perfect, the set screws came right out. Now I need to know the best way to put them back in, I can't find any information in the manual, should I use loctite (red or blue) and if so how do you make sure the hole/threads are clean from grease (its so close to the greased shaft)? What torque spec should I use or should I just snug them up?

I actually bought two micro torches (13 bucks a piece at Harbor Freight) and used both at the same time to heat the shaft/collar (one on each side), seemed to work really well with no burning plastic.

Thanks in advance!

I just tighten them back up. Use blue lock tight if you use any.

Thanks, that is pretty much what I did. I tried to tighten them up to 10 ft lbs (just thought that sounded like a good torque spec) but apparently that is too much as it broke my sears evolve allen head socket :).

I would not have put any lock-tite on them either but in an application where you cant get the grease out I will put the lock-tite on the set screw and let it tach up to the point it is almost dry and then put it in it will have a better chance of setting then but use the blue for this. Again not on that shaft though I never put any on mine and it never backed out.

i have had one come loose when i tightened it. did not go anywhere but still came loose.

Sorry just went and looked at the sled this weekend and noticed it has 9200 miles on it so that is 7200 miles on the graphite slides and they are toast now and I will finally be replacing them this year. Now the question is do I put the Duponts on that I already have or sell them and get new graphite ones. my concern is that they are 144 Duponts and that means the inserts don't go all the way back. where the graphite ones wore out is further up so the inserts would help but is it worth the $140.00 I spent on them when I got 7200 miles out of the graphite ones that were maybe $40.00?

Well here's some food for thought...I run the mountain Duponts (SMA-DPSSV-MT-00) slides on my '18 XTX rather than the standard length ones (SMA-DPSSR-00-00) along with those 135mm idler wheels I mentioned earlier and last year during our Feb trip up to the U.P. we had some warm days with no snow on hard packed trails where other sleds (mostly Ski Doo Renegades and a Viper LTX) all had slider issues where one Ski Doo's hyfax melted to his suspension rail; another had to change theirs that evening. Although I was concerned and did inspect mine, I did not see the wear they experienced. Fast forward to this fall when I dropped my suspension where I got an up close inspection of the sliders and they still look like new. I only have 2500 miles on the new Apex so time will tell how well they hold up and if they were worth the extra $$ but so far the prognosis looks promising. ;)!

I hear you on that but I wont be investing in the longer duponts it is a back up sled and the one my son rides when I let him so the choice for me will be the ones I have or the graphite ones it also has scratchers so them type conditions are handled by them quite well as well. like I say the wear is in the area that the DuPont inserts are so they would help but my gosh 7200 miles why bother? lol.
