Currently my 08 mono is set on the first clip and according to the chart, I am right in the middle as far as clip positions go (200-215Lbs)
Last year I sent my shock out for a rebuild and revalve and I am happy with it but I am curious if it could be better yet? (first time I have done this on my Vector)
What can I expect to change if I move my clip to the second setting?
My sled is set as close as I can get it to the 40-45 mm of sag right now so by moving it to the second clip, will I even notice anything?
Sled is strictly used for trail riding, and I like to ride agressive when I can.

Moving to second clip position will definitely stiffen things up, will help prevent bottoming. Your cam/ramp setting would probably be in the first position. If you are not bottoming out your suspension in its current setting, I wouldn't bother with changing clip settings as your ride will begin to suffer. By the sound of it, you still have two or three unused cam positions left on your shock.

I moved my clip position on my 2006 Attak to the second. I weigh 165 lbs; probably 200 fully dressed. It was a definite improvement. It basically allowed me to have additional adjustment when I got near the upper cam.

The 121 Apex and Vector come with a 4.5 kg/mm spring rate on the rear shock. I have had 2 Apex and currently a 12 Vector, all 121's. I weigh 185 lbs, 210 suited up and my saddle bags weigh 25 lbs. All you are doing by moving the clip is adding more pre- load to the shock. It has been my experience, 30,000 miles, that the more you pre-load the spring the harsher the ride. I replace the stock spring with a 6.5 kg/mm spring. It is the first thing I did on my 12 last year. If I were you I would change the spring. This will allow you to run the first clip with very little pre-load. It will also leave you a ton of adjustability. As far as spring set in, I think Yamaha's spec is to much. I would go with half of that.

for one it makes it stiffer irv, also helps t keep skis planted om accel through the corners imo, running my pex at 3 rd clip and 6 th cam at 245 dressed more than happy with it

Thanks Thrasher, you're correct, I still have a few clicks left on the adjuster and I rarely bottom out so I think I will leave well enough alone?
I may also try what UNH Hockey suggests, maybe lessen my sag distance some and once bottoming out becomes common then raise it up one notch at a time until I find a happy medium.
My shock builder also mentioned that it is preferred to have some ride in so I think he might have been thinking Yamaha's suggestions might be a little off too?

Thanks for the replys everyone, I appreciate it
