I purchased MPI's 42 tooth reverse gear and was installing it when I noticed that it hits the reverse drive gear in the chain case. There is no way the two gears can pass without touching. Am I missing something? Is anybody running this gear? The way I see it there is no way this gear could ever work unless I've got something wrong. If you click on the pic you can blow it up and see the problem. Any Ideas out there?

Thanks Rx1M5

I would call them and talk to a tech. I wouldn't run it like that for sure!

That's what I thought at first too but the small gear rotating clockwise must pass the teeth of the large gear also turning clockwise because they are meeting on opposite sides. The small gears teeth are going up where they meet while the large gears teeth are going down cause both are spinning the same direction

I couldn't run it like that even if I wanted too cause when fully assembled the chaincase jams solid. On a side note I got my parking brake lever reverse actuator done and it works slick. No big reverse handle saves 1.5 lbs +, so the total reverse weight gain is just over 7 lbs.

On the gear problem what do you think would happen if I machined the tips off the small gear?

I'd go with the 40 bottom and go to a 20 or 19 top and send that one back. You're not going to need that low of ratio once you get the turbo on it anyway, Ken.

Thats kind of what I was thinking too. By the way I picked up a tank, header and fuel regulator last week, I just need a few other thing like the fuel pump, some couplers, BOV, charge tube and exhaust dump and I'm ready to go.

I thought that might be the case. I'm going to call MPI this morning and see what they have to say about it. The teeth on the idler do seem quite tall and pointed so there might be enough room to do it.
Thanks for the research
