I posted this on the 17th and not much in replies so I thought I will try again. I was riding my 2006 Vector RS on a groomed trail at approx 30 miles an hour and my driveshaft broke just behind the chaincase, anyone else with this problem. I have 14000kms (8400 miles). Thanks Mike

I know 05's had a problem. They had two different manufacturerers. One was bad. They recalled them. You had to bring your sled in so they could check the part number. Don't know if 05 and 06 have the same jackshaft, but if they do then maybe one slipped by and got on your sled somehow. I would have a dealer check the number on it.

Rage broken drive axle

Yes 7200 mile on 05 Rage, going about 25mph hit a bump and came to a screeching halt.
Thought that the chain snapped and lodged into bottom of chaincase as secondary clutch was spinning along with the drive cluch.
Problem only got worse as the machine had to be towed about 2 miles with track not turning.Quite the trench we left on that trail!!
This one week after having the stator go and also had to tow it out of the woods

Thanks for the reply, mine broke on the right about an inch from the back of the chaincase so I was able to tow it slowly with the track spinning. It sounds like yours broke in the middle.

No same exact place about 1 in from chain case.
The track was right up against the front idler wheel so it would not spin.
I have a M-10, maybe that was the problem.
It sure made it difficult to tow with a 500 ski-doo!

For future reference if possible get a plastic sled and put it under the track. It will make the towing much easier. But sometimes depending on where you are getting to a kid's plastic sled isn't that easy.

It seems to be common to see them go around that milage, my buds '05 RX1 121" last year with 13.000kms broke at the very same location as yours, also another '07 APEX broke his at a little over 10.000kms...both un-studded sleds.

Hey Wooly Viper. I believe it is a problem and not wear and tear unless there was a bad bearing. Also my 1991 Yamaha Venture with 14000 miles(23000 kms) still has the original shaft.

My parents have 2 Mtn Vectors - one had the stator go and one had one of the shafts break.

The shaft breaking was NOT due to wear and/or abuse. They ride their sleds back and forth to the cabin on groomed trails 85% of the time.

I've had good luck with my 4 strokes (RX1 Mtn and Apex Mtn) - but I am not sure that the vectors have the same reliability based on what I have seen.

No problems with my 05 driveshaft in 5500 miles just changed out all drive bearings last year and the lower PTO side was pretty much shot but drive shaft looked good.

Watch for a VIBRATION at the footwells...its usually a sign of drivesahft fatigue and snaps a short while after.

My Attak with 12,000 miles just snapped the driveshaft. I would think they are all the same shaft. We were able to tow it with no problems. My fault for not listening to people on this site saying to replace it. I ordered one for $138.00. I don't think they should break but they do.

Towed by a Ski doo! But in 12,000 miles that's the only time it has failed me.
