I am getting a turnout but is there a way that anyone has done to make sure that no heat at all goes back there? Home made deflection plate or something? Ideas? The reason is because I am putting on the mountain addiction gas tanks and I don't want any damage back there what so ever!

if its the Yamaha turn out then you could improve on that by making your own out of 1.5" stainless tube and have it stick out farther. the oem one doesn't turn out that far imho. heat reflection tape on the plastic gas cans are you next option. last would be making an aluminum sheet that sits vertical on the tunnel to block the cans.

I envisioned having a small plate bent up out of 1/8 aluminum that could be riveted to the tunnel just behind the turnout that would shield anything from the immediate exhaust gases. Have the corners rounded or cut on angles to make it look for attractive. I think it would work.

Yes! That's what I was thinking! I thought you could connect it with a L bracket attached to the tunnel right behind the exhaust facing upward. I think that you wouldn't have to worry one bit about anything back there. So that would be pretty cool and very easy.I envisioned having a small plate bent up out of 1/8 aluminum that could be riveted to the tunnel just behind the turnout that would shield anything from the immediate exhaust gases. Yeah the only thing I dislike about that is when your not running the gas tanks or anything back there it just looks weird. but its defiantly functional! I went under tunnel exhaust so no longer an issue.

I'm running the exact setup you're talking about and haven't had ANY issue with heat.
