If you don't want to split the wiring power source near the chaincase here is another option.
The optimate battery charger cord is fused (15amp) and connects direct to the battery.
I might connect my pig tail for my heated shield to this.
The 01 cord in the picture that comes with the charger.

the good thing about a heated shield hook up your to your battery is you can leave it plugged in during trail stops in really poor or icy weather
