Am I missing something? took the new sidewinder for a test drive

it amazes me how one guy can post his own personal opinion about something and will get so many responses. he drove the sled and simply said "he didn't like or enjoy the sled." when someone is spending 20k+ with taxes that don't expect to pay more for extra products to make it the way he wants it to ride. I hate to say it but if you want a good trail sled you could buy a skidoo, they're light and a lot less expensive to buy.
I like Yamaha for the reliability, that's why I stick with them.

He said am I missing something? We just explained to him he missed a lot. Had he not wanted to hear what we thought then maybe he shouldn't have put a question mark on his thread.

thanks everyone for the positive input. just curious is there no throttle override system on this sled? looks like another sidewinder took off on the mountain sidewinder forum.
when you say took off, please exsplain, yamaha said they found no everdence on mine to support any faults from Yamaha, are we looking at one of the deep and steep sleds having throttle problems?

Dont worry about it, uncle, uncle, the sidewinder is the best sled ever made. Man you guys are touchy on the winder forum. You think I was insulting your first born child, time to let this post die.

What did you expect? You put a question mark asking if your missing something and we responded. First your riding one of the biggest tanks ever to hit the snow (Apex) and most of us Sidewinder owners also owned them in the past and you calling the SW too big and heavy for the trails. LOL! I'm not going to go through all your list but the SW doesn't need power steering if you set it up right. Oh and it spins the track? 200 HP may have something to do with that. Also the heated seat has low and high settings and if its too hot turn it off. I think the only purpose of your post was to try and convince yourself that you don't want to spend the money for a SW. So in conclusion if your happy with your Apex then that's what you should keep. Why come on here and tell us SW owners everything you don't like about our sleds? Does it make you feel better about your sled?

"Am I missing something? "

Well, yes you are.
Did you jump on your stock apex and say it was the best thing since sliced bread right out of the box? Did you not dial in your suspension to your liking? You didn't look too close at the heated seat. High and low settings. Too warm? Turn it iff. How do you like the heated seat on your apex? Same as my apex probably (correct. You don't have that option. ) Do you still run stock carbides on your apex? Did your apex come with studs from the factory? Some guys here didn't stud their Sidewinders and still like them. Personal preference. Did your apex seat come soft from the factory?
Guess I could go on and on. But no sled is set up perfect for each person from the factory. Sleds also have break in time where things will loosen up (seat, suspension, engine, etc.) As for heavy steering, just takes suspension adjustment. The ignition, yup placement sucks. Do you turn your sled on and off while driving? Inconvenience at worst. Doesn’t affect ride quality. Reverse? Button is small, but you don't have to pull a lever either.
Glad you like your apex. I like mine and still enjoy it. It ain't no sidewinder, though. And when I come to a trashed trail, I don't panic and dread it. I either pinch the throttle or turn my dial on my shocks and then pinch it. Ride what you enjoy. Maybe the Sidewinder is not for you.
Ride on brother I'm glad you said it how it is. There is no comparison . Only thing that beats it is the sound ! Why some people that just want to bash!!

Guys, I own an LTX-DX and I have over 1000 miles on it. This thread is spot on!

Right down to my seat heat.... low setting burns your #*$&@... can't even imagine running it on high! The problem is, if I turn it off it takes a while for it to heat back up. So the best fix is to stand up for 15 seconds and sit back down.

I've had the fuel rail pop off and dump fuel on the motor, my boots and my suit only leave me stranded...even had to ride bitch on a skidoo...turbo bolts loosen up, clutch rollers flat spot, steering so heavy it's ridiculous.

I've tried every suspension setting, I've done Curve skis, pilot skis, burgstrom shims and ski savers... I want to luv this sled... its bad #*$&@ looking, hauls #*$&@ when the pack is hard... holly #*$&@ hold on when you cross a lake ...

I bought the LTX -DX because I wanted a more plush ride than my Apex RTX ... which also rode like a brick... but it handled great with shimming the skis and some Bergstrom triple points... better than my winder!

My friends are all done with me wanting to work on different changes to the suspension at every stop! I'm almost at the point of dumping this thing and going back to an Apex. I'm not the only one out there with these issues.

I see thread after thread about hard steering. And theads about clutch rollers, threads about turbo bolts...seat heat, hand warmers, oil breather, coolant, belts, the suspension creaks louder than the motor!!!... so yeah to the OP of this thread... you nailed it!

I guess I can judge a sled from a demo ride.

So when I took my 1st ride on my 2011 Apex, which I do love now by the way, the seat was too low, the clutching was soft, the handlebars were too low, it handled great until you hit real bumps. To top it off it lasted a half mile before an error code came up and I needed to replace the speedometer sensor. Not to mention it took five years to fix the broken w arms, inside ski lift and they still could't put a decent set of factory skis on $14,000 machine. The point is, there isn't one new sled out there where you just jump on and its perfect for everyone. The new sidewinder takes some adjustment but after doing so and breaking in in for 500 miles it settles into a very comfortable, fast, great handle machine. Jury is still out long term but so far this is a very nice machine.

Plush rides and heated seat complaints - sounds like a little sled confusion and self made drama to me...I know a heated seat definitely did not sell me on the SW.

Maybe you're more suited towards a "minivan" style sled (maybe a little too much muscle in the SW lol). All joking aside, a sled cannot represent everything to everyone. So if a cushy ride and a heated seat is a priority, the SW is probably not the sled for you.

If your looking for a plush ride (trade off being - you'll be eating snow dust all day long at the back of the pack) - have a look at a Doo (how was the tandem ride you had on your buddies Doo when your fuel rail popped off?)
