Has anyone upgraded their steel-bodied rear-rear shock (No coil-over, just the damper portion) on the Proactive suspension on the 05 Vector?

I would like to go with the Ohlin replacement (36PCW). Before I drop $450, I'd love to hear some feedback from someone who already took the hit.

Thanks!
Greg

I'm in the same boat. I wish we had some feedback on this. My other option was to change the skid out to an expert-x or a m-12...

Based on my experience, the Ohlins shocks are extremely aggressive (stiff) setups. I would call Bruce Schrader at Pioneer Performance before I bought one.

There is people on here that went to bruce from pioneer performance and he racommends a ohlin center shock and send in the rear shock to him for revalving.

Another option in trying to gain some performance out of the rear suspension is to replace the torsion springs with heavier springs for heavier or more aggressive riders. Yamaha has had some heavier springs become available last spring and I believe they are currently working on some pricing issues with them to make them more affordable to the consumer. The Nytro torsion springs might also be an option as they are definitely stiffer than the 05 Vector style.

There was a post on this in the spring. I had talked with bruce about this as he is 15 miles from my house. He had tried the ohlins as stated told me he can revale the center shock (stock one ) and the new rear ohlins. He takes all the spring off center shock and fronts and sells a heavier swaybar.

I dont think heavier rear springs is a good idea as it seems there is not enough rebound damping. With stock adjustments the sled would rocket you back up way to fast. Not enough dampining to compensate for the anti bottom stops

I have put heavy springs in all my previous mxz sleds and always needed to have more rebound added to the rear shock or it comes back to fast.

I wonder how the stock nytro rear shock compares to the ohlins in price and is there a part # yet

My riding expereince tells me that the whole problem with the '05 Vector rear skid is that it has INSUFFICIENT REBOUND DAMPENING.
("Skidozer" also understands this... THANK YOU!)

I believe that this is caused by the rear steel bodied damper. This is why I am interested in the Ohlin replacement. However, I do realize that the only has adjustable COMPRESSION dampening which is the opposite of what i need. My hope is that the compression dampening, although not adjustable, is more than the stock steel bodied damper. Can anyone confirm this?

I feel the front shock is adequately valved from the factory and final adjustments can be dialed in by limiter strap and coilover preload settings.

The steel bodied damper in NOT rebuildable or adjustable. It is, in my opinion, complete junk.

I too am in the same situation. A bit heavier, tipping the scales at 220 without clothes, I found the rear suspension bottoming and when adjusting the anti-bottom stoppers the suspension had a po-go effect like a bucking bronco. Removed the stoppers and bottomed out way too often but go trid of the po-go. Now the question becomes, new shock or shocks, and new springs? Two new springs are the same price as an Ohlins shock. Hopefully Yamaha will come out with a very reasonable price on the springs SOON and then I can get both.

Ohlin shock

I bought the ohlin rear shock did not get a chance to use it yet. Hoping it will eliminate the pogo effect. I had an M-10 with ohlins and loved it !!

You can get a rear ohlins with rebound and compresion. Maybe not from yamaha, but they make them. Maxdlx

I am going to the Big East Snow Show this weekend. Hopefully will find some deals there on suspension/shocks! :yam:
