Rebound Dampening on Proactive Suspension SUX

I run my block at M with 50% transfer. 170# rider.

I just recently increased my front shock preload. This is the best thing i did, BUT I am out of further adjustment. I agree that there isn't much room to adjust on the front shocks.

This helped big time with the nose diving. The increased spring preload jacked the front end up a bit which tends to put the sled into a "climbing" attitude off the top of a mogul.

I also increased the preload on my front skid frame shock. This also helped with nose diving, but then I snapped off my two limiter straps!

After all of this, the read damper is still not doing it's job. That is my final gripe. My buddy beleives that my limiter straps snapped because the rebounding isn't dampened enough and I think he is on to something. The straps were probably being snapped back into place rather than easing back in. The rear damper does affect the motion on the front skid shock, too.

Before I drop $320 on Maxximum's rear damper, I'd love to hear about one from a real user.

Increasing the rear suspension front shock tension will take pressure off from the skis and increase ride stiffness. Ski lift is caused by wieght transfer to the rear of the sled. Remove transfer and ski lift is gone. Everybody is all over the board with thier settings. You have to play with the suspension and it will work very well. It is the best I have ever ridden. I have mine set up full soft all around and bottom just once in awhile. I ride hard. I wieght 230lbs not dressed. No ski lift, rails like a slot car and rides like a cadillac. I do not recommend an M10, alot of money and you will spend alot of time tweaking, all of the time. No wieght transfer either. Stick with your stock suspensions and adjust to your liking. Good luck! :4STroke: :rocks:

I talked to Greg (?) at Maxximum today and he said that the Vector suspension part options (shocks, springs, etc) are not yet available because they haven't had sufficient time to test them. Next year he said.

I'm gonna try increasing transfer (people have said this improves the rear skid ride quality), tighten the front ski springs to 1/2 way, and grease the rear skid myself.

What did you have your limiter straps set at when this happened? Where they all the way loose (stock setting) or had you tightened them up a bit......if so, how much?

I obviously want to avoid snapping mine.

OK, this new Nytro shock looks to be a nice unit. I can't wait to hear what the dampening rate is. Right now, our stock Vector rear damper is:

Extension Dampening: 410N/0.3m/s
Compression Dampening: 460N/0.3m/s

Regardless of the numbers, it's obvious the extension dampening rate is not high enough to control the rebound acceleration.

Well...I hate to sound negative but I have to admit I'm extremely disappointed with the rear skid. 564 miles and I've adjusted and adjusted, and the rear ride is just not good! Not Viper rough, but not as good as I've heard it was supposed to be. Maybe I'm spoiled after 19 years on Polarii?

My friend followed me for all 320 these past 2 days, and even before I had him ride next to me, he said that it looks like the rear suspension hardly flexes at all. Same with the front.

The rear shocks must be are valved to stiff, and possibly the rear springs are too tight. What else could there be?? On the front, the shocks again are too stiff, but the springs are for sure not heavy enough. Cant crank in enough ski pressure with the springs.

Don't know if I should change shocks/springs and hope, or jsut go and put in an Expert-X or M10. I've got the summer to decide!

Id get the shocks revalved. The ProActice CK is a good suspension.
Besides, revalving your shocks HAS to be cheaper than buying a different rear suspension.
Hey, maybe we could work out some kinda suspension trade. I hate the ride of my EDGE rear skid. The '05 Vector that I rode had much better ride quality.

You're right on the revalving being cheaper. I'll definitely change the rear/rear steel shock to something else, so there's what...$200-300??? As to the other shocks....gotta do something.

The PA rides better than the Edge??!! There's GOTTA be something wrong with my skid if you say the PA rides better than the Edge!

My limiter straps were set up in the third hole from the top, or two holes tighter than the stock setting. I think they snapped becuse the rebound dampening isn't sufficient so they BANG back into position.

garserio is the nitro shock a ohlins or different than the ohlins in the yamaha acessories book.
I moved my bump stops and i agree the shock has way to little rebound damping I think the skid works but shock don't I will be getting a ohlins or whatever the nitro shock for next year.

The Nytro shock is different that the Ohlin. I beleive it Yamaha's own design. I've had Ohlins before and they are an awesome shock. I'll have to see what the price difference is between the Nytro shock and the Ohlin YA562. I am most likely going with the Ohlin...
