I am currently having the same trouble, nothing happens at the key, if I try it 4 or 5 times it attemps to start but will only roll over a couple times before it quits. The fuel pump is not comming on either. Where is the starter relay located, I know about the 4 on the left side, is one the starter relay ?? or is it the one down by the battery? Any help would be great as the weekend is almost here and we have good snow.
Thanks
Thanks

Thanks , I was pretty sure it was down there but I didin't want to rip everything apart before I was sure. I was hoping it was one by your left foot but that would be too easy.

My day doesn't seem to be getting any better than yesterday. I have the sled in many pieces now, have cleaned, removed and swapped every relay there is and still nothing at all. It has a code 43 flash if you hold the key for about 3 seconds and the engine light comes on. 43 is fuel system voltage, which makes sense because the fuel pump is not comming on , even after I bleed any remaining pressure off the system. The dealer with the scrapped APEX is away for a day or so, great timming on that one for sure, so I can't even run down a trade out the start relay. If the start relay is bad, will this cause the fuel pump not to come on??? It is like this in cars as a saftey devise so I think it could be the same on this. The dealer is almost 2 hours away and stocks nothing. Everything is 3 to 5 days away. Which makes me wish I had gotten enough money together when I tried to get a Yamaha dealership, but that's another story. So any body hhave any ideas on this one???? HELP please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you pulled the starter relay to inspect it? There have been reports of corroded contacts. Also, you can swap with one of the other relays to test if I'm thinking about the correct relay.

Its happened to me twice now with the fuel pump relay. Just put my hand in there and grabbed all 4 relays (not sure which one is the fuel realy, I've eliminated the 2 outside ones, so its one of the relays on the inside, anyone know precisely?) for about 10-15 mins, and then she works. Yamaha has just come out with a new relay for test purposes. My dealer gave it to me yesterday. I'm suppose to use if for the rest of the season, then send it back to them. Supposedly yamaha was using faulty apoxy on their relays to seal them, and at the right humidity, moisture gets in there and freezes them up. I carry an extra relay with me just incase.

If I bypass the relay and go right to the starter it works perfect and cranks perfect. What is the odd relay on the left, 3 are the same and seem to work fine after being swapped, by the one I can't check is the 2nd one in , it's a different part # and can't be swapped with the otheres and I'm not sure what it controls, anybody out there know.???/
thanks

Well , I think that settles it then , starter relay is my guilty bastard. The others swapped out work fine or they all went bad at the same time which is VERY doubtfull. Thanks for the help.

So here's an update; Replaced the starter relay----------nothing, replaced the fuel pump relay, still no pump and no rotation at the starter. Jumped the starter and sprayed gas into the throttle bodies and she ran till I flooded her----now I need to change the plugs-- friggin great. The test for the starter relay is fine, swapped out a new ignition switch, no difference. I'm think my next is to try looking for a spot in the harness that's grounder out, this would explain a couple on Odd things. I'm missing a great day due to something that is going to really make me mad when I find it. If my overdraft wasn't used up It would look like a new 2009 by now. I'm at the end of my rope with this, I consider myself a pretty good mechanic but I'm getting my #*$&@ kicked by a sled !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some assembly required but it runs again. I checked , spliced in a ground , cleaned all the connections, greesed them before I put them back on and I still had nothing, but it was acting like a ground but I couldn't find it. So I was on a link from TY that I was sent and read about this grounding block. Well this had to checked out further, so I cut open the main harness to expose the wires and found the first Ground block and the test light lit but was dull-----------now I'm on to something. I kept removing the harness cover and found the second , main block and it looked burnt, check with the light and dull, cut out the block, connected all the wires together and what do you know-------------she started. Son of a bitch, a whole day wasted but it's fixed without the dealer
Why they would hide such a valuable testing spot in the harness is beyond me, if I had know about it , it would have saved alot of troubles.
Thanks to all for the input and help. It was your help that solved this trouble.

It would probably be helpful to future hair pullers to have that link posted here. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
PS Please take the time to update your location in your profile. Thanks!

I would like to have that link also. Might need it in the future. Post-it up?

Duste:
Thanks, that is looking to be very helpful with my Code 11 Topic. I have used the SEARCH function to find it. Have it printed off with Crewchief's pics to enable me to TRAIN my dealerships mechanic. They are usually pretty good to deal with (in Moncton) & since they charged for the 1st fix (didn't work after the $377 charge & a 8 mile run) I expect this one will be looked after.
Will let you know.
