Is the hose in that picture taped? If it is it shouldn't be. The split in the tube is there in case the end of it freezes up and will still allow the crank to breathe.
I never knew that the split was supposed to be there. I was taking my sled apart this year for maintenance and noticed the split, I thought it came apart so I put shrink tubing over it. I'll be taking it back off apparently.

Wow...never knew that slit should be there either!!! I taped mine up too...gonna take it off today!! Just goes to show ya how much you can learn from this AWESOME SITE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
