Hey all

Just wondering if anyone has crossed open water with their Apex or Attak's yet. Do they do ok, or are they prone to getting wet clutches such as other yamahas of the past?

I have had my clutches slip a few times when going through a really watery slush hole on a lake, which was preety much like open water, so im not sure what to think.

Anyone have any expericne with this?

I've crossed water with both my 06 RTX and just recently my 07 Attak. They both cross open water without any issues. I have not however tried it for very long. I ran the river outside my door the other day and made it about 1/4 mile.

yep they seem to work ok...I added some silicone to where my pan meets chassis under and in front of primary....just incase!

The RX1's have run well so the apex should. You just have to watch the skis you are using. I can't recall what type I was running at the time, but I did have a set that shot water toward the belly hard. The clutches didn't get wet, but there was a little water in the engine compartment

Last year in March I ran a lake that had 3" or 4" of water on top of 18" of ice. A warm front came and melted all the snow on top of the ice and turned it to water. I ran across this lake for approx. 5 miles and didn't have any clutch slippage problems. The Apex seem to handle the conditions just fine.

That sounds great everyone, but im for sure getting water in my clutches. I pull the panel off everytime to check, and sure enugh, the foam all around the clutches is soaked, the metal pan thing that is under the space between the primary and secondary has water on it.

Im not sure how the water is getting in, im thinking that its coming through the running boards, as the diamond shape lets alot of water through, the it drains down into the engine bay then maybe gets sucked up by the clutches.

I have checked all my gaps between panels and all of them seem ok and dont look like they could be leaking any water. Just need to find this leak really bad so I dont get into any trouble.

Hey machzed, what is the pan you are talking about, im willing to try anything to get rid of this leak.

Oh, and im running this water doing well over 100kmh, ususally around 130kmh or so.

I'm not going to intentionally run over a really long stretch of open water. I do like to do it though...it is a blast.

Would I be safe running over a 100 Yard stretch? That is all that I am comfortable running over.

I have run my Apex over 30 - 40 yards...glides like an eagle.

One thing for sure is that my buddies Poo could run water a lot slower than my RX1. He kept telling me to slo down, so I tried a run t his speed and damb near sunk. I like to run 55-60, he was running 35-40 on a Edge X 600.

I can tell you from experience that these motors don't like water. I broke through the ice and put one on the bottom of a lake while running and it did severe damage (broken rod through the case, etc...). May want to consider that before you guys take a chance on not making it to the other side.

Taking a sled across open water is living just a touch too much on the edge, IMO
