I know there are some TY members that have converted their Apex over to the larger 20-BS battery. What steps are you taking to successfully use this battery, as the positive/negative terminals are reversed, compared to the 14-BS battery that comes stock? Are you able to simply flip the 20-BS 180° in the battery tray?

Thanks,

I put one of these in my attak, it is a straight drop in. You have to remove the foam pad to make room and bend down two tabs in the bottom of the batter tray. All of that takes about a 30 seconds. Of course you have to dig your way down to the battery to begin with which takes a bit longer.

BATTERY YTX20H-BS YUASA

I *Believe* that the HL version as in YTX20HL-BS is the one with the flipped terminals.

I've researched the HL part number you listed and it appears that is the glass mat version of the YTX20, but the +/- terminals are the same.

If you have time before fall, would you mind taking another look at the battery you have, with the flipped terminals, and shooting me a part number? I would need the positive post to be on the mag side of the engine when installed.

If nothing else, it would be simple enough to modify the cables to reach.

Thanks for your input!

Here is a thread discussing the batteries. https://ty4stroke.com/threads/battery-question.149219/#post-1375991

I ordered BATTERY YTX20H-BS YUASA

The other one (with the 'L' ) is the backwards one.

The sled is buried right now but I am sure I will have it out before fall, I will take pictures then.

I did 3 Attaks with the ytx20 they work fine and he's right with removeing the foam..no problem with 20k miles between the 2 that I owned .. YUSA makes that battery with the pos on either side.. I got the YUSA that is higher out put.. ytx20h

I've researched all the information you guys have disclosed. I was having trouble absorbing all the different battery numbers and which ones had the flipped terminals, but it all makes sense to me now. The YTX20H-BS is the AGM type and sounds like the best route to take.

Like Earthling mentioned, the "H" version has the positive terminal on the right (mag side of engine), just like the 14-BS battery that came stock in my Apex. This is perfect, as it will drop right in after removing the foam, as mentioned above.

All I need to do now is make a purchase before fall!

Thanks again!

I believe I also got the H version of the YTX20 for my Attak and you have to remove the foam for it to fit. Otherwise, happy with the larger CCA and larger Ah for those cold days and charging the electronics when the motor is not running.

I received a new, larger capacity Yuasa battery for my Apex the other day. As mentioned above, the YTX20H-BS has the + terminal on the mag side of the engine, as required for an Apex. The YTX20-BS, has the + terminal on the PTO side of the engine, which is required for the Vector and RX1 (I'm sure other models as well). Otherwise, the YTX20H and YYX20 are the same.

The 20H-BS is a higher cranking-amp battery than the 14-BS that came stock, and is a direct drop-in for the Apex with no modifications, other than removing the foam that helped secure the smaller 14-BS

I will also mention that I've never seen brass terminal nuts come with these batteries? I'm not sure if this is good or not. I'll just grease them good at installation.

Thanks again to all that commented and led me to the new battery! :)

A lot of great info in this thread. When my wife and I were both running Apex's up to a couple of years ago both of our sleds used the YUASA YTX20H-BS batteries and they always performed year after year without any issues in starting the sleds in sub-zero temps. Replacing the stock battery with the "20" is one of the best improvements to be made in the Apex. Just maintain the battery with a good battery tender and they'll last a long time.

Joe.....no worries if you battery didn't come with the brass nuts. Just use some dielectric grease on the terminals and you'll be golden.

It's a little know fact that YUASA discontinued making the same version of this battery a number of years ago that had the brass nuts: (YUASA- YTX20H-BS-EM). You'll notice that the discontinued battery had two extra letters in the part number (EM) which stood for "Extra Masculine". I heard that their marketing department determined that today's modern snowmobilers with long travel suspension sleds no longer needed "Brass Nuts" to ride their sleds like the older models. :dunno:

I was going to say something about Joes Brass Nuts but it wouldn’t have been near that creative LOL
