I just purchased a new 07 Yamaha Apex GT. I have riden it a few times with about 65 miles on it. The question I have is whether what I am experiencing is normal. When I start the engine for the first time it starts fine but it immediately dies. I will then start it again and on about the 3rd or 4th time it stays running and once the warm up light goes out and it is warmed up it runs great.

Is this something unique to my machine or are other experiencing the same behavior?

Not normal, upon start-up mine always jumped up to about 2200 RPM's and when warm ideled back down to about 1500 RPM's. Take it back to the dealer and have them deal with it.

agree with mrance111, not normal. Cant seem to recall my sled dying out like that one single time. Now my motor will stumble a little bit if I try to move the sled within 30 seconds of starting it

Thanks guys! I thought is was strange that an engine with fuel injection would have problems like this.

It is a hold over so there is a possiblity that the fuel in the tank is old so I think I will wait and see if it works better when I fill it up. If it continues to start like this I will take it back to the dealer.

I appreciate your input.

Brad

If you think the fuel is that old in the tank I would suck out as much as you can and top up with fresh. Put it into a clear bottle (windshield washer) and look for water or dirt. Might ease the mind if you find something. After 2400 miles mine has never stalled. Cold, warm or in between. Good luck and enjoy the sled.
