Apex GT Shock Maintenance

I have an 06 Apex GT with app. 2000 miles. I have updated the rear spring from Pioneer Performance (fat boy spring) and the sled still bottoms out. Does the shock re-valve really take care of the problem? Also, at what point do the front remote res. Ohlins need to be charged/rebuilt?

Yes, re-valving the shim stack will help as well as the fresh Oil and it's time to do the front too.JM.02

Ohlins, and I suspect the GYTR's, and even the Kayaba's now are considered to be quality shocks that should go a long way (1000's miles) before they need to be serviced again (after initial oil change).

You can go about 3-4000 on any Ohlins or GYTR's... Kayabas 2000..

I have 11k miles on mine and haven't done anything yet. Why is some people have to rebuild them very year or every 1,000 miles. I don't get this!

Ohlins, and I suspect the GYTR's, and even the Kayaba's now are considered to be quality shocks that should go a long way (1000's miles) before they need to be serviced again (after initial oil change).

You must mean 1000 miles before the first service, then a long time?

All shock fluid should be changed after 1000 miles just like a motor shock's break in too,they too deposit tiny flakes of metal into the oil and by this contamination can cause flake's of metal to logde itself in the shim stack causing it to not function properly.So for those that don't change there oil in there shocks,you are missing out on the best possibile ride your suspension can give by not changing it.As far as premium shocks go yes they are premium BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN THE OIL IS.

i did the ohlins revalve and biggie spring on my 06 gt last season. it is an improvement, but still not stiff enough for me. keep in mind that gt is for 'groomed trail'.
i'm realizing that it will take a bit more work to get it to work for me. depends on how you ride/ rider weight/setup.
also- prior to revalve, the seal failed on the ohlins. you may want to check this on yours. i understand this is udated for '07+ sleds.

When I raced motocross, I would race 6 to 8 moto's on a new bike then have the oil changed and revalved to my riding style. There is a difference. After that it was once a season.

The Ohlins shock in ny Dad's sled seems to be blown.

It has 2300 miles. He rides high speed when the trails are good, but he is not a mogel masher.

Surprisingly, it rides pretty good with the spring doing all of the work.

I never added the heavier spring to his sled because I didn't thing he would have an issue due to his riding style.
