Hello, I was wondering if I could get everyone's opinion on the two sleds? I was thinking of replacing my '02 Viper for next season. I love the power and handling of my Viper, it still makes me giggle when I get on the throttle. But after riding an '06 attack for a bit, I really think it is time to upgrade. Is the Vector going to be enough to continue the wow factor or do I need to go to the Apex? I know the vector is the same horsepower as my viper, but is 100lbs heavier, and will that be noticible? Or do I need to up to the apex and shell out a little more cash? Appreciate your comments. Thanks

P.S. I know not many know how the new Vector will perform, but assume it will be better than carbed versions, but was wondering what you carbed guys think?

Decisions

It depends on the type of riding you like to do. I have an Apex because I like to go for the long distance rides and for me it has more adjustability plus the extra lenght in the track makes for a better ride. If you are doing more riding close to home then perhaps the Vector might be for you. Of course you could look at it simple from a monetary perspective or perhaps from the HP perspective. I to had a Viper and loved the way it handled, couldn't stand the ride so had to put an M-10 on it but I put almost 10,000 miles on that sled. For me I like the whole Apex package. I just got back from a 1,400 mile trip to the UP and it performed very well.

For the buys that are available on current and leftover models, it is a no brainer if your willing to part with your cash now. Go with the Apex and purchase the extra warranty.

I'd have to agree with Apex Dave in that it depends on the riding you do.

I've ridden both, and have had 3 Apex's since '06. I plan to ride a new Vector for next year.

Reasons:

1. Handling: definitely better/flatter than the Apex. (but I don't run lakes much)
2. Throttle response and low end grunt is actually better on the new Vector! This is really my favorite part... the response is just so immediate!
3. E.B.R.S. adds even more to the handling (smooth transitions)
4. Easier to ride fast on tight trails
5. Finally a 3-cyl that sounds cool! (much better than the old Vector, but still not as nice sounding as an Apex)

If I was a lake runner, I would get another Apex.
But I ride tight trails 90% of the time.
And the corner-to-corner feel of the new 1050cc Vector has put huge smiles on my face!

I absolutely love my 09 Vector LTX GT!!! Those long distance trips are cake and nothing but smiles here. I can imagine the new Vector with fuel injection and more HP. I was torn between the Vector and Nytro XTX until I rode them on Demo day. The Vector to me handled by far the best on the trails and I was open minded to both sleds. When it came down to my decision I chose the Vector. You can't beat the trail ride and gas mileage here. Most of the time I'm riding under 50mph anyways through the trails and there's nothing better. When I do get the chance to open it up I do but usually under short distances. It's definitely no slouch~ had it in the high 90's and still had plenty more throttle left! It's fast, not Apex fast, but I didn't buy my sled to race. It would be interesting to trail race these sleds. The Vector is very nimble and agile to me here. So much fun on the trails~the Cadillac as alot say. The Vector is less expensive and you can always add lots more horsepower with aftermarket products~ and still probably pay less than a new Apex. The 2010 Apex LTX GT is $2000 more than the Vector LTX GT. That is just my 2 cents. Everyone is different and the Apex is in a league of its own, pure power with lots of top end. For what I want out of my sled the Vector is perfection and plenty powerful. You should look for the Demo crew to come around your way. Give them both a ride and truthfully compare for yourself. :yam:

I have both,
06 Attak with 12,000 miles
09 Vect LTX GT with 2000 miles (wife's sled)

If I was buying new today.. the vec would be it.

The Vec handles better on the trails, quiet, better mileage, lighter, and has plenty of juice. I can only imagine that the efi will be better yet.

Anyone know when they will be demos in Minnesota? or close to the twin cities?

As for weight, is there much difference? And since they are same chassis suspension similar, wouldn't the handling be pretty comparable? Or am I way off base?

It's not so much the weight difference as the positioning of the engine in the chassis. Because the 3 cyl is smaller and does not have a gear reduction unit, it sits lower in the chassis which gives it a lower center of gravity and changes the handling traits for the better. I was skeptical too but comparing my old 06 Apex RTX to my new 09 Vector LTX GT, there is a noticeable difference.

the vector is the king in long mileage trips,it sips gas,i love my 09 ltx, much better than my old warrior, the sound was something i was worried with cuz the 4 banger sounds awesome, but that 3 cyl has its own cool sound,no issue there, power wise, its got plenty of grunt, lots of torque,105 mph is good enough for a trail sled,i was torn between the apex or vec, tried both, fell in love with the vector's quiet operation, plus it out handles the apex, get the 2010 with all the new stuff on it or a leftover, much cheaper

Is the 25 HP worth the $2000 that's what I'm trying to justify...

One word....YES

Coming of the Viper I think you won't be happy with the power of the Vector. I drove one a couple of years ago when I still had my Phazer II and even then I never got all that excited. But with the Apex...the smile keeps getting wider
