Apex mountain skis on Attak

I know, my jaw dropped when he offered up the trade. He said "they turned too hard" when going slow............ I offered him another beer and accepted his trade offer

But the A Arms on his Phazer Mnt are very vertical, where A Arms on the Attak are horizontal. I think all that downward pressure on his made the turning hard, where the Attak doesn't experience that as bad. Oh well, I just better get those parts and install those skis before he changes his mind!

I love the mountain skis on my Attak. They float great carve very well and with the ski shim mod and the Stud Boy Shaper bars they don't dart and they handle great.

I just traded for a practically brand new set of Yammi Mnt skis from my neighbor. I am psyched! They came off of his Phazer Mnt Lite, so I have ordered all new mounting hardware for these bad boys, which should be in this week. They do have blue handles, which won't really match my skis, so I will most likely put my old ski handles on them. They had brand new Roetin 8" Carbides (150 miles est.). I will shim them 1/4 " in the back and install them on my Attak. SWEET!!!!!!!

Mike I think you're really going to like them makes it a lot better in the deep stuff the front doesn't sink down like it used to. I went to Home Depot and got the wedge shaped toilet shims they are I think about 3/16" on the thick end and it raised the front of the ski 1/4" off my garage floor. The handling is great now. get some brass screws and some adhesive then glue and screw the shim to the bottom of the rubber and you should be good to go.

And Tryanattak: Thanks so much for the sage advice time and time again. I just picked up a few of those toilet spacers at L&M Fleet store over lunch. they will be perfect. Did you cut those down at all? Or just mount the thick end on the bottom rear edge of the rubber stopper under the ski? It looks like those shims should work mighty sweet!

I had the APEX MTX skis on my they work great. Then last year I got a set of ski-doos ploit 6.7 skis for free and I love them alot nice then the yamaha ones

Mike I used the red permatex, and yes they were mounted with the thick end towards the back. I didn't trim them at all. I drilled a hole just a bit smaller than the screw so it would thread thru the shim also and used a countersink so the screw would be flush. One of the best mods I've done along with the Mountain skis makes for a totally different machine in the powder. You might also want to try removing your transfer control rod and just try it and see how much transfer you get, it just lifts the skis up on top of the snow instantly. Just make sure if you try it this winter that you don't hit the throttle hard unless you're pointed straight or know how to turn it by weighting the running boards LOL. It yanks the skis off the ground instantly and will stand on the rear bumper pretty quick. It's funny I rode last year with a guy who had a 09' Polaris Assault (awesome sled by the way) and he was commenting saying "yeah the Yamahas' like yours are fast but they can't pull the skis up on top of the snow and you can't carve with them cause they're just too heavy". Well we went down into a ravine out in the Kingston Plains where there are some big steep and deep hills and when I hit the bottom I proceeded to carve around him and my son who was sitting by him. Then I proceeded to yank a wheelie from a dead stop in over 3 feet of snow, then I got going about 45mph and punched it and pulled a 3 foot high wheelie up to almost 80mph before running out of room. That seemed to shut him up. Then I did some off camber hill climbs where I had to go straight up part way then sidehill past some trees then turn up hill to continue the climb. After that he didn't say anything about the heavy unmanuverable Yamahas. I absolutely love this sled. I will admit though with my track I couldn't match his hill climbing speed. Hence the reason I'm looking to go out ot 151". I also had the opportunity to ride a 09' XTX on the same day and it was a good ride but I'm just used to my Attak. I'm 5'10" and weigh about 255lbs. and while I'm not as strong as I used to be especially since I broke mine spine in two places 2 years ago, I can still seem to throw the Attak around pretty well so that might be why I like it ok. Now what i think would be an absolute blast to ride would be my Son's Phazer stretched out with a turbo or a supercharger. Those things are light and fun but lack the cohones for my weight.

Well tryanAttak and Wildbonz I got the Mnt skis installed today and they look great. But I've noticed they have a little slop. I checked the schematics again, and there is a little washer that fits on the end of the 2 outer collars. I had these written down when I ordered my parts, but my dealer assured me they were unnecessary. Duh! So I did get those pieces ordered later today and they will in Monday or Tuesday. It was nice of them to try and save me some dough, but it's irritating to wait now........

I also installed those toilet shims for the shim mod, and they worked just fantastic! That was one f-ing cool idea!
