Hi everyone been lurking on here on and off for years. I have a 07 Apex that I have owned since new that is completely stock and has 7000km. The sled sat for the last couple seasons in the garage due to poor snow conditions but I always run sea foam and it started up fine at the start of this season. So far I have put on 400km and everything was running top notch until last night.! The wife and I went on a short ride 120km sled ran fine until the last 20km. The first indication was a slight miss for just a split second, I actually thought
I had just imagined it but then I stopped to talk for a second and the sled was idling and just died. I turned it over and it fired right up thought this is bizarre. Continued towards home and could feel it sputter a couple times seemed to happen when letting off the throttle but continued towards home running fine other
the odd sputter. I get within 300yards of my house just idling down the road and it completely dies, so I try starting it and it turns over fine I hear the fuel pump prime but it wont fire up so I keep trying it and after ten trys it fires up running a little rough but then cleans up and I drive it home pull up get the wifes sled in the garage fire up the apex runs for a second and dies have a hard time getting it going again but I get it to fire up again and get it in the garage. This morning I put it in D1 and tps is 16 and 96 D60 Shows 00 no codes. So I fired it up and it started fine ran at high idle for a minute and then just died before it idled down, started back up fine and ran for 30 seconds and died and would not fire up. I have been using the same gas same pump as the wifes 2 stroke venture so I do not think its a bad gas problem as her sled is running great, I also run a couple OZ of seafoam in each tank. The only thing I have done to the sled is exhaust donuts at 5500km, regular oil changes, and the battery is good. This really has me stumped no codes, dies at idle cold or warm engine no change. starts right up after dieing one time next time it dies its really hard to get it to fire. I can hear the fuel pump priming each time I tun it over. Sorry for the Long winded post but I am LOST on this one. Any thoughts very much appericated Thanks Dustin.

Check the ground blocks in wiring harness, there is a few of them in the harness just in front of the motor on left side and more up near the back of the motor. Just locate the harness and follow till you find a slight bulg and open the harness up and look for corrosion. They are known for this problem at about that age. Don't take much to look! My friends 07 RTX had the same problem and I found a bunch of corrosion in the bunch in front left of motor.

Also you can try starting the sled and push and pull on the harness to see if or where you get a reaction before opening the harness.

I was wondering if the position sensor on the stator would give symtoms stated above? I met a guy on the trail that had to replace his position sensor on his apex but it showed a code to replace stator and mine is not showing any codes?

That's the symptoms mine had with no codes until it didn't start back up then it showed a code. Mine was the pickup coil, I bought aftermarket and haven't had a problem since.

Well I am going to go through the harness and check the grounding blocks, test the stator and disconnect the battery and re boot it in hopes of getting it to throw a code.

So I took the advise and decided to check the grounding blocks. Sled was not firing so I decided to wiggle the wiring harness while turning over the machine and it fires right up! So i am thinking sweet I have found the problem, so I let the sled warm up then I try wiggling the harness at the grounding blocks to kill the engine and nothing keeps running so I keep wiggling the harness and the engine starts to sputter so I look at the harness and notice these 3 connectors coming out of the harness and the one with the Black cap was touching the frame and arcing. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Worst part is my sled never showed any codes was a real head scratcher. I am shocked that this connector was able to short through this black cap! I have attached photos of the plug that was arcing on the frame. Can anyone tell me what these connectors are for? My apex is a ER so maybe this is the same harness as the GT. My father has a 08 apex ER and his harness does not have these these connectors.

Not seeing pix! Wondering if bad ground could still be the problem? 12 volt systems do strange things with ground issues!

All those black capped connectors are ground blocks. One on the thinner ones goes to the injectors.
I have cut off the connector and soldered the wires together to eliminate them.
Here is a good post about them http://ty4stroke.com/threads/apex-wont-crank-and-no-fuel-pump.83994/
