Having never owned an Apex I'm considering grabbing one to have as a trail sled. They are historically reliable and pretty cheap to buy now. For all you experts... What year and model would you buy? I'll have my wife riding on it with me probably 50% of the time. I've been told to look for a 2011-2015. Please provide your opinions.
Thanks.

Gen 2 (2011-15) would be my choice. There’s a lot of small changes that make them easier to maintain. The 128” version Mono II skid was fairly well calibrated from the factory as well. Your wife would likely find an XTX(144) version far too stiff stock.
I too would opt for a 2011+ 128" model...less maintenance issues, especially exhaust, and power steering.

Unless she sits on the tool kit lid (told to undo button) , I had seen them with
the jack seat mounted but always the long track while I was looking for one.
Saw a nice one at a dealership in PQ. with 25,000km..
I have only ridden mine (long track) for about 2 km into the woods and it certainly rides nice,
steers easy , goes where you aim it. the track is full of studs and was brute to load from
concrete .. My asphalt floor took a beating putting it in and out.
I think you will need the long track ?? maybe the rear susp bolt is same distance and
won't matter ??

IMO...the 144" Apexs were just too big....too heavy...and never rode or handled real well. I have a 136" but I would stick to the 128" for sure for my wife.

Me too! Had a '11 Apex 128 that I liked but was in rough shape due to previous owner so sold it to buy a '16 146" that was in great condition but didn't like the feeling of driving a tour bus all the time. Sold that to pick up a mint '18 Vector 129 and can't wait to put some miles & smiles on it. Will miss the Apex power but not the drone. I did look forever to find a good condition low miles '11+ Apex shorty but came up empty.IMO...the 144" Apexs were just too big....too heavy...and never rode or handled real well. PassengerDMCturbo ... Is your wife riding 2 up as passenger or driving the sled ?
I have a 2018 vector with the upgraded rear. shock. Went through 4 shocks leaking because of a grease fitting hitting the shock. Ripped that air shock out and installed a coil/over shock. At this point I have 2 Vectors, thinking of selling the 2018. Wife doesn't ride any longer, health problems.Me too! 11-15 apex xtx handles like a 136" sled due to the tipped up rails. the 16-18 xtx doesn't have the tip up and steers much harder. i own both.
11-15 xtx typically came from the factory over sprung for solo riding. for 2 up riding with a seat jack, i would leave the stock springs in it and just turn the springs up when she is along. 39000 km on the 11 and still counting.
