Hi folks,

I'm a new snowmobiler (age 47, northern Vermont), but have owned many Yamaha motorcycles and love their products. Couple days ago I agreed to buy a 2007 Apex RTX with 8500 miles on if from a local dealer. For $6200.00, with balance of factory warranty until 2011. Asking price was $6500.

My question is, am I paying too much for a sled with this many miles and would you be worried about any major component failures ($$) with this many miles?

They look like easy miles because the sled was clean with very few scratches, dings, etc. I'm not worried about the motor, but about all the other components I know nothing about, since I am a motorcyclist, not a sledder.

The seller says the owner put most of these miles on in Quebec doing 300-400 miles days over last two seasons.

All comments / suggestions welcome. Hopefully I am not throwing money away.

Thanks for your help!!

Brian

Geeezzz. Do some homework here on the skid under the sled you are looking at.....

Pay attention to the comments regarding the Proactive CK suspension. The Mono is totally different, shares no parts with the Proactive. They are night and day. The Mono can be dialed in and can be made pretty nice, the Proactive.....???

Thanks for the response ahicks.

It was kind of an impulse buy because its starting to smell like snow up here...it looks clean and not beat on, has a warranty and the shop is near where I live. I want to ride and not spend a lot of time messing with replacing parts, so hopefully this thing will hold up.

Anybody else got and thoughts on a 2007 Apex RTX with 8500 miles as far as preventative maintenance, etc.?

Like ahicks said read about the proactive suspension on this site...search it!!

I own an RTX and cant really say anything good about that rear suspension. If I were you I'd reconsider...go with the mono. All that Ive read on this site, is about how that suspension sucks, and people are swapping in other brand suspensions.

Now on the other hand, everything else is alright. I love the fox floats, the motor and the chassis.

As for preventative maintence, you can also search and find lots of info. But to get you started, I would check sliders, because they go fast on that skid. Jack shaft and drive shaft bearings, re-grease, grease the skid, change oil if it hasnt been done. Exhaust donuts go on these sleds!!! Front bushings on the a arms...check slop...and the list goes on.

Good luck

the motor will last 100000 miles if taken care of but i personally would not buy a sled with that many miles. thats usually when i trade it in i get scared

Thanks guys.

Seeing as its my first sled, I doubt i'll even notice any shortcomings with the rear suspension, unless it's totally blown out.

I guess the price isn't too bad since nobody commented.

I am looking forward to some good times riding this winter!
