apex really 150hp?

Mighty, Ryan (pro 116) is really into the performance stuff, I have seen him at Jeff Simons and Jeff of course is big into dynos and racing.

I really did not know that all the break in happened in the first 30 miles although I did know that as much as 70% happened in the first hundred miles. On a BMW bike I can tell you that it takes 1500-2000 miles before it has full performance, and I am sure it is the motor and not the drive train on that particular machine.

I just made a phone call to teammate on my rifle team who happens to be a recently retired engineer from GM (He was one of the lead engineers on the Cadilac northstar project). I asked him how long it took a 4-stroke High performance engine to reach it's maximum HP. I told him about our little debate and he went into this engineering lingo for about 10 minutes. I then asked him again but this time asked for the reply to be in english :o| He said that in many cases it can take several thousand miles to reach full HP with most gains being made in the first 1,500-2,000 miles. The tighter the tolerances the longer it takes. I'm sure he would be happy to write a full report on this if you would like :tg:

The bottom line is that you will gain HP with the more miles you log on the engine to a certain point :ORC

They seem to alike regardless of vehicle plaform. I've found that you can tell an engineer but you can tell them much.

Steve, See my reply on the regular forum. I agree with your statement wholeheartedly. I think my experience with engineers is slightly tainted though. Seems that the ones I have met have all been recent college graduates with little or no field experience. This includes the automotive as well as NUCLEAR power field. YIKES!!!!

Dave :o| :o| :o|

i have not seen much if any difference in hp from a new engine with few miles on it, to a engine dynoed with several thousand miles. leak down is were its at, we dyno a race engine until the leak down comes into specs, usually this only takes 2-3 hard pulls. i have seen engines go from 20 percent leakdown to 4 percent in 3 dyno passes. depending on how you drive and what oils you use your ring seat time will vary. anyway you want to put it the new apex is 10+ more hp than the rx-1. the throttle response is awesome, and they handle like a dream. jeff
