When I cut the cover on mine, I started with 3.25 inches at the center. This is the important measurement, then I wrapped the tape to the corners. so you basically wind up cutting out a piece that is oblong with points at the ends. I say start with 3.25" as if I had done 3.5" I would have wound up with a gap between the seat and the cover. You saw how mine looked and I think it came out just right. I also finished it off by putting some windshield trim on the bottom of the cut edge on the cover.
