Overall im very happy with my yamaha apex ltx, drove all last season with no problems (2008), and even went through my rough storage in a non heated garage and old stale fuel and still started after a spark plug change, oil change, and greasing all of the grease areas i could find. We now finally have a little snow on the ground so i was out riding, i also replaced the flimsy dash (light cover) that holds the guage/windshield on since it was cracked, let a friend drive my sled, and 30 minutes later he tipped it over and broke the dash again
Is there any way to prevent that cheap $150 plastic piece from breaking so easy or can i buy something aftermarked thats stronger?
Also what do i have left to do for maintenance, i have 4000 Kilometers on the sled, im in Canada, and what ive done for maintenance is checked oil and replaced it, (drained it out of bottom of engine with the bolt that holds the oil in, added it until it was at the full mark on the dipstick on the oil area (the piece that says radiator? :| ) anyway i know its the oil container as it has the plug in gauge piece etc, i have not yet changed the oil filter since the sled was purchased should i do this also? Also i have greased all of the areas that required it, but another problem i notice is the track seems to bottom out more then before, and i cannot adjust it due to the cable for the adjustment is broken, and my skis are worn through due to the gravel roads ive crossed many times, im looking into the SlyDog skis would these be good, and how long carbides do i want?
I also noticed the track is slipping, ill have to tighten it. What airbox mods do i need to make the sled louder, and what exhaust mods or whats a low price exhaust if i cant do mods to it as i cannot afford much at this time?
Also i have heard that i should install a skid plate, what are good skid plates that will be easy to install?
Im looking to buy new graphics also, who sells the cheapest graphics or even full plastics to make the sled look nicer and will they get wrecked easily?
Thanks, i know im new to the site but ive been browsing for over a year now and so far im happy with it
Im sorry if i seem so new, but ive been riding sleds for 10 years but new to Yamaha/4 stoke and so far loving it

Also when tightening the track what is involved as for steps? Is there an online guide? And also i noticed it sounds like there is an air leak in the air filter, when i start it i can hear a hissing noise while its turning over that appears to be gone once it starts.

If you check the Apex/Attak FAQ thread at the top of this forum (link in my signature), there are links in there about oil change and the skid plate. Regarding your oil change, you measure the oil to the dip stick without screwing it in.

What about belt and sliders?

Well for the belt i know i have to replace that but i have to get the clutching done/adjusted at the dealer, it has been using belts every 1000 km since i bought it, now its going through them every 300 so i know there is a problem there, sliders, well the track runs on them right? Ill have to look under and see what they look like... Im a do it myself person but ive let dealers do most of the work for the whole time ive snowmobiled, just now am i learning how to do things on these
Dealers are far to expensive now mine wanted $300 for an oil change.

Yes change the oil filter, that should of been done at 500 miles, if it is not done do it now. The belts should not be blowing either, most people can get 4-5 thousand miles on a belt before it blows with these four strokes. Skid plate is a good idea, not to bad to install. Slydogs are a good investment, with out studs go with a 4 or 6 inch carbide. With studs go the biggest you can. Some other things to keep in the back of your mind are the exhaust donuts, they go everything 3-6 thousand miles or so. Also I think the jackshaft and driveshaft bearing should be greased every 4 thousand miles or so.

I suggest going to the yamaha mtn. skis I have them on my 07 Attak and love em. Also try the "high performance" sliders from yamaha they are only a few dollars more and I find they last better. I put a bender pipe on mine and it gave it a sweet sound with weight loss benefits as well.

Ill look at both the slydog skis and the yamaha mtn, bender pipe ill look into also.

I say don't go with the Apex Mountain skis, all the other after market ski companies have patented keel designs that are leaps ahead of what most oem companies offer, you can't go wrong buying curve, slydog, C&A's or SLP's skis there are all better than stock.
