I removed the secondary clutch from my sled to check the jackshaft and driveshaft bearings and kept everything in order, at least the order they were in on my sled.
Looking at the Parts manual on Yamaha's site, is their drawing correct, or is it just a guide?
On the front side of the clutch I have the bolt, the "Team" EZ belt tool adapter, the stainless washer for this adapter, then an oem washer(shim) and the spacer.
On the back side of the clutch is one washer(Shim) and then another "washer" that one side is flat, and the other side of this same washer has a recessed area-from what I remember during dis-assembly, the recessed side went towards the jackshaft bearing.
Yamaha's drawing shows 2 washers on the front side of the clutch (item #22) I have removed item #24 per the instructions to install the belt removal tool.
Does the location and # of washers I have appear correct?

best way to know for sure is to measure your offset...it should be 15mm from rear of primary to rear of secondary....this is when secondary is SLID all the way back,"float" space is then infront.
On my sled this means One large washer is behind secondary(#20 against bearing)....and two THIN washers are infront of secondary(#22)....these are large holed OVER the cylnder tube(#23)
with my alignment bar, measuring 15mm offset mine has only 1 behind....so I would measure yours...there is supposed to be "float" too.
removal of #24 is correct for the TEAM EZ belt remover.

On a side note, how much float is good on a Apex? Around 1/8 has been the norm on my Poo's. Lately locking secondarys in alignment has become popular.

Its not a matter of popular. Its a matter of efficient. The less float, the more efficient, BUT, you need perfect alignment with a locked secondary, otherwise you might blow belts.

i have come to conclusion that Locking secondary for DRAGS or RADARS "MAY" help "IF" you lock it in perfect alingment spec(15mm offset)....
however, that being said.....I think for OVERALL trail day to day riding, the "floating" secondary WILL MOVE while under normal loads on and off throttle, and go along way to "self-aligning" and help with belt life in the end.
under off and on throttle trail riding, the load is removed periodically from the secondary and the clutch will "float"...i beleive this is what yammie engineers strive towards.
If you decide to remove the float(I ran it "locked" all last season) you MUST be SURE you have secondary offset correct!

Thanks
Thanks NOS-Dan, I'll double check the offset!!
Edit-to set at 15mm, I have both washers on the front side as you stated.
Good to go!
Thanks for the help!

belt
i run both ways on the fixed method i get a little belt dust on floating
i don't i'm at 15mm offset, mine came from factory with that offset so
i added washers to front side fairly easy. i'm a neat freak so i don't like the dust.
