Is it normal to go through a a set of carbide skags in one day riding on snow with this machine? can i change ski pressure or is this something i have to live with? The machine is stock except for 8 inch carbides that wear at spindle point.

Stop riding bare roads...
There is no way you are burning off carbides in one day unless you are riding bare roads or bare trails..
I could could go 3000 miles on a my carbides on bad trail easily..

Even with a fair amount of snow if you don't have a good base the carbide's will trench down to the dirt. Where you from and what were the conditions? Other riders will find that hard to believe as you don't hear that often if ever. My wear was all at the front on my stock carbides but since the bergstrom triplepoints went on with the shims and the ski savers they are now only wearing at the front 60/40. Check out Scott's site for more info.

my concern is that i may have too much ski pressure as the skis will not come off the ground when i get on it. there is not much base but the other sleds i ride with do not have a problem.

First you need to shim the back of your skis about 1/8-1/4 of an inch to flatten out the carbides (you have too much front pressure)
Do you have studs..?? Where is your Transfer rod set at??
You should be yanking your skis from a dead stop pretty easy..
