Hey guys, I was having trouble starting my 2006 yamaha apex rtx. Last week the sled would have problems starting. It would sound like it would barely turn over but would fire up. We would ride for a while, turn it off and then it started up like nothing! Really quick, instant response.
So I got back from my ride, checked one of the plugs (which I changed last season) and it appeared to be clean and good. I was checked the battery at Canadian Tire which read change battery. So I put a new battery in this week and put the battery tender on it for 2 days. I tried starting it today and it again barely showed any life turning itself over, then fired up.
We shut it off after 5 mins and there again it started up no problems. We just changed the starter last year. Any other ideas!
Thanks

Sounds like you have something draining the battery. Any devices or aftermarket goodies wired in? GPS, Sled Start, Yamaheater?
Since you already have a new battery, I'd recommend doing a current draw test right at the battery.

Check for loose connections at the battery & the starter. Check the ground cables.

starting problem
When you get it started and have it running for a while, battery is charged assuming your charging system is functioning properly, measure battery voltage when you shut it off, at the boosting leads and record number. After the shutdown period, and you go to restart it, measure voltage first and see if you have a parasitic drain. Should have about 12.3v. Do you have any aftermarket accessories on sled? As Blue Dave mentioned, check all batt. and starter connections. Just a few thoughts.
