Is anybody using this tank bag? I Received tank bag SMA-8HG83-00-00 for xmas, http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/acces ... etail.aspx
but I don't think I want to use it, as to get to the gas cap, you have to unbuckle it from the tunnel where it mounts to get to the cap.
I was wondering if the one that is in the title of my post, if it stays planted and the map pocket it self just velcros off and flips back to get t the gas cap. http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/acces ... etail.aspx
Which is a lot more user friendly that I can see.[/b]

I have the 2nd one on both my Attak and my '11 Apex XTX. Lot's of miles on the one on the Attak and it still looks like new. The only issue I've had is the velcro attached to the tunnell coming loose. Cleaned the tunnel with acetone and heated it with a hairdryer when I reinstalled new velcro. Lot's of storage and it doesn't bother me even when boondockin'. ;)! ;)!

Hey Viper_Dave,
Does the base stay on the sled, and it goes around/has a cut-out allowing for you to get to the gas cap, by flipping back the map pocket? The first one that I received, you have to undo the buckle from the tunnel to get to the gas cap. Thanks in advance
Rick

I got the one for the nytro, looks like the first one u pictured, but i have it puled back from the tank more, there is just a strap that goes around the filler neck, works great. straps that go to tunnel pull them back as far as you can too, this is on my apex.

Yes it does. The 1st one is just like what I have on my Viper and it is a pain when filling up. The 2nd one just flips up for filling and has a mesh pocket for your gas cap. If you want to take the bag inside, just pull a tab and release it from the velcro. Takes a little finagling to reinstall, so I just release one side and reinstall it. It WILL flop up if heavily loaded and you hit moguls at mach 3 OR if you land HARD from a jump. I just flip it back and keep on motoring LOL!!

Thanks Viper_Dave,
One more thing, can I ASSuME that there is a felt padding underneath to prevent scratches of the tank? THanks a bunch
Rick

HAHA, yes!! The backside of the base has a scratchproof cloth on it. Grab one and install it, you won't be disappointed!!

Thanks for all your help. I called Yamaha corporate after calling a couple of dealers that didn't have one in stock to look at, and Yamaha will be getting back to me!! Got my answer on here a whole lot quicker.

I have( for a few years or more) the complete tank bag with side pockets and the top map/storage case does flip back. I love it and want to get one for my wifes Vector LTX as well.

I ordered the DX version(grey/black), as the all black one that is shown in the 2012 catalog is no longer being made. Go figure.

Yea the black one was not perfected actually but it still was good. I had to use different Velcro (2in from walmart). The bag actually didn't lay well after it broke in so maybe they redid the pattern to fit it better. Also if you put any amount of stuff in the side pockets it would make it worse to stay attached to the Velcro being it would fill out thus contracting the attach points.
I'd like to see a picture of the DX it after installed to see how it lays on the machine. I'm wondering if the new side pockets would interfere with my long knees.
