Apex vs. MXZ REV rider forward

Hey, I'm sorta new to this site and I got it figured out that it is pretty cool. I like all the info I got from my "0% financing" question, thanks everyone. But I have another question. OK, right now I have a 2005 REV 550 Fan, my dad got it last year to replace our old phazer. This is a great machine, no troubles, I can kick #*$&@ on the trails and I'm able to stay ahead of 600's. But I just need more then 70HP for the lake running that I do at my cabin. So I decided on a new Yamaha, a 2007 Apex RTX. I decided on this sled because my dad has a 2006 RS Rage. I love that thing. Man it sure goes too. I like the 120 HP power plant no doubt, but I'm clued to the rider forward thing I got going on with my REV, and with 6 thousand kilo's on it, I'm not going to go away from rider forward.

So i was thinking of a new Ski-doo. I wanted the 800 but I hear it is slow, and its only got 138HP. I thought of the 600 but thats not much of a gain of a sled for me for $11,500, really all I'm getting is 50HP. I cant even compare the quality and fit and finish that my dad has with Yamaha. 20 mpg, and having to add no oil is great. They look good, sound good, and last forever. So I'm going with a Yamaha for sure.

So I decided on the Apex, or a Nytro, because I love ditch banging, going fast on lakes, and just playing around and even hitting some small jumps. I would like to get the 120 Hp power plant as its a little cheaper, but it don't come in rider forward which I really like. I know the Nytro has rider hight, so I might still consider that one. But I will make my final decision when I go to the "Big 4" sled show in Winnipeg next Monday. My question is how does this rider forward on the apex compare to the REV? As i have not been able to drive a apex yet.

I'm 18 years old and this is going to be my first sled that I buy on my own. I'm going to dish out a lot of money but I love the sport so I think its worth it. I've been riding forever so don't worry I have the experience, I can drive a sled no doubt. But I would really appreciate info on this because I'm trying to do as much homework about the sled as I can. This is a big purchase for me, and I've saved up for a long time. Thanks everyone.

I have not owned either sled but have ridden both the Rev and Yamaha. To me the Rev seems more rider forward and the Yamaha seems like rider upright. The Yamaha has alot more room to move around and still be comfortable imo. You can still ride standing up but maybe not as comfortable as the rev. I think the Yamahas heve better handling anyway. I am currently trying to decide wether to by and Attak or get a Nitro and stretch it to 128" or 136". I did not notice any real difference in Attak/Nitro seating position.

I have both, they are different sleds. You need to ride the Apex before you make the jump, it may not be what you are looking for !

I have rode both the rev you do sit farther forward and is a little better for standing up.I was also debating but I'm staying with yamaha you cant beat the overall fit and finish and reliability.

The rev is RIDER FORWARD... the APEX is RIDER CENTERED!!

I think for longer rides the apex is a way better machine.. (more comfortable) less stress on your wrists!

If you like your dads rage than you would love the NYTRO ... The nytro is rider centered like the Apex.. and alot of guys think the nytro is better in the large pumps compared to the apex..

If i were you id look for a used NYTRO or APEX on this site under the CLASSIFIED ADDs.. there are guys giving them away for $8000 or less.. with very few miles..

I have had a REV, an 03 RX1 and now an 05RX1 that has had an articulating riser added as well as increased seat height and a wide front end. I have also ridden the Apex GT, RTX, and the Attack.

Out of all of these, I thought the GT handled the best. My widened RX1 is a close second. The RTX was too soft up front in the twisties but I hear that can be improved with the proper adjustments. The Attack had too much push for me, but again that could have been a set up issue. Guys seem to love them for long rides.

I believe the Apex is rider forward enough to give you the handling performance you need. It is also in my opinion more comfortable to ride than the REV. The thing I hated about the REV was that it felt cramped during long rides. My shins were always getting banged up on the cowling. The Apex has more room and offers more variety in seating position. My improved RX is good enough that I'll wait a couple of more years to replace it. The way the weather has been I just haven't been able to put on the miles I used to.

Hope this helps... I too would look at the used stuff as well, the way the weather has been there is a lot of low mile stuff out there at huge discounts.

I think they are both nice sleds. I have ridden my buddies rev 800. If there is one thing about it, it is not slow. They are fast machines and have alot of nice rider friendly options. In my case, i decided on Yamaha mainly for reliability of the 4 stroke. Only time will tell if i made the right choice on that one, but i can't remember ever logging into here or HCS and seeing a post saying blew up my 4 stroke so i took it for what it was and am ganna give it a shot.

Out of all the people i know there is a variety of different sleds in the 130+ hp range.

The doo and the f7 were close before mods, pretty much whoever hooked won. My guess is the Apex will run somewhere in this category but it will be hard for me to get a baseline because they hate to lose and are already modding out the sleds with 500 miles on them. The Rev has a clutch kit, and will prob have a pipe and gear for next year. the F7 has a clutch kit, twin pipe, and boondocker kit, The Mach has stuff done to it to but i dont know what. The RX1 had stuff done to it too, clutch gears, wtc but for some reaosn struggled to stay ahead of the 800. The same kid who owns the RX1 owns the F7 he is selling the RX1 cuz he lost basically lol.

From the type of riding that you have just described, then you will want the 07 RTX and that is coming from an ex 800 REV owner. The Apex rocks.

I was seriously considering an 800 HO REV, because I love to stand and ditch bang, 4 out of the 5 guys I ride with have REV's and when its really rough on the trails they just haul like its nothing....my RX-1 is crap on the rough stuff but great when the trails are groomed.
I just bought an Apex RTX, so I hope to have a little better luck in the rough. Its got fox floats and an Ohlins mono rear.
From what you said I think a Nytro would fit you good.

can save a ton of money buying a new 2006 nitro. Yamaha has big rebate program. I think the financing may take some of it, you would have to check, but still a bunch less than the apex. Probably better ditch banger if you are happy with the 120 of your dad.

My buddy always wants to race. What can I say he drives a race car! He squares off with every sled I own. He got a new Rev with the 800PT this winter. After squaring off with the Apex about 3 0r 4 times he had had about enough punishment. The Apex is hands down faster.
I am totally impressed with the Apex. I would never have believed that a 4 stroke could run that well or feel that balanced, but it does. Rides comfortably standing or sitting.
Buy the Apex. In my opinion it is excells in a every aspect except one: Storage. There is none.
