i've been thinking about this alot lately and looking at pics and seeing them in person i believe with the 06s the word "rider forward" isn't exactly what yamaha should call their new rider position. yes, the rider is more forward(6 inches) but it is still not really putting the rider extreme forward like a rev. when you really look at the pics in the brochure of the shadow of a rider and sled, the rider is standing up and his position is rider forward while standing but not as much while sitting. so, i feel that "standing forward" is a more suitable name. i sat on them and yes you are def. more forward but i just think the term "rider forward" is getting thrown on anything that remotely resembles rider forward. these are my 2 cents, i'm sure i will get ridiculed for this but oh well :? :ORC

I thought the seat is taller, making the transition to standing position easier, not a true rider forward arrangement.

As you ride your body automatically moves closer to centre when the need arises but you can move to the back of the seat if you prefer it.

You have to ride one.

To me....the sled does not feel as high as the REV....but way more sporty.

I thought the same as youself.....the pics do not do the sled justice....you must ride one!

well i'll be riding mine next winter and then i'll see. i'm not bashing it or anything it just doesn't seem to fit the name to me

Where's Simich?? He's got a Rev...I'd like to hear his opinion on this one.

Rider Forward is a buzz word (two words I know). It will sell more sleds...what would you call it? rider somewhat forward?? It might not be as far forward as a rev but I don't think it should have to be to get into the rider forward club. I truely think this new position is perfectly natural and it still allows the rider to stretch out unlike the Rev.

Hey guys....the Apex's are not AS Rider Forward as a REV...my REV has only ONE position and your stuck in it...like it or not. The APEX's have what I found to be 3 positions....FORWARD with knees on/near the panels and feet behind your knees, MIDDLE with your foot on your toes directly under your knees, and RELAXED with your boots in the holes and your A$$ at the back of the seat....that's the beauty of these sleds....you will find yourself moving between these 3 postions naturally and effortlessly as the trail and condtions dictate.

My understanding is that the SD RT platform (found on the MachZ and the 2006 Renegade 1000) is similar to this as well because alot of people don't like to jammed on a REV...they want an option.

Right now you will always hear people say they LOVE a REV or HATE a REV...because with a REV there is no middle ground to be had.

The APEX's will allow all groups of riders (forward and lazy) to converge and meet at the mighty gates of YAMAHA

Sorry...got a bit carried away there :? :ORC

:D
Rider forward is about center of gravity, length of lever arms for rider bump absorption ie, rocking in the middle of the 'teeter totter' versus being lifted up and down on the ends. Yamaha seems to have moved the rider forward ~6 inches-and seated taller so he can 'rock thru the bumps' and rise to standing with more ease. Less severe than the REV claim of 12 inches forward.
I can not wait to hear how these really perform on 200 mile days as I think they will abosolutely set the industry on its ear!!!! :yam:
I think it is more than just "marketing" but a true change of the performance and 'feel' of the snowmobile.
My 2 cents

Not only has the seat risin allow the transition from sitting to standing easier, but the bars have moved up and forward bring the rider closer to the center of the snowmobile helping to centralize the mass even further between rider and machine.

The Rev is so rider forward its rediculas... TOO extreme. I rode one and within 10 minutes my shoulder were feeling soar from being hunched over ...so maybe call the REV >>HUNCH FORWARD?. And The 06 Yammis are somewhere in-between the Rev and a more comfortable position called true >>rider forward. :yam:

The REV is a snocross sled. Its great for people who like to stand or sit with their legs under them.
However, thats not what everyone wants. A lot of people out there find the REV to be very uncomfortable, especially if you ride a lot of miles.
The Apex and Attak, as was said earlier, allow you to sit on the sled however you want. Unlike the REV, which forces you sit on it with your legs under you, you can sit on the back of the seat with you legs in front of you and cruise, or you can scoot foreward on the seat, with your legs under you and ride very aggressively.

;)! Well put, you are on the center of the teeter totter versus the end.
Easier standing and suspension comfort.
But wait there is more. Moving the mass to the center helps the sled corner with more ease.

I agree with this completely. I have a REV and I find it uncomfortable to sit. When I want a break from standing I just don't get it on the REV. After sitting on the Apex I think it made more sense for someone that does agressive trail riding (but not out of control fast). I didn't get to ride one, but after sitting on it I bought one.
