Apex vs rev chassis

The Apex has a more relaxed seating position.. I find the REV's hard on the knees and the inside of your legs and the footing is too tight.. and not mention you bash your shins and knees all day... its not for me.. They look to be fun in the bumps though.

If you're over 5' 10" you will find yourself trying to kick your feet further ahead the entire ride. I ride an '06 Attak and have multiple friends with Rev's. They are fine for stand up riding but I can't ride more than 20 miles sitting down on one (I'm 6'-3", 220lbs). I've got 850 miles on the Attak and maybe 100 miles on the Rev's. The smooth constant power of the 150 FI takes my breath away everytime I hit the throttle nothing compares to it. I'll never ride two-stroke again (2 years ago I was ready to jump ship to Ski-doo because I didn't want a four-stroke...I'm 100% happy I changed my thinking)

rev vs Apex

First let me say I was and still am a diehard ski-doo fan. This might be a bit long but This is my test evaluation of the last couple years or my .02 cents so to speak.

Coming off Mach Z's I Purchased my new Rev 600 X when they released in 2003 with the beaver tail and thought to myself there is no way any other sled manufacturer will beat this sled setup in the bumps. Then I went on to the 2004 rev X 600 SDI which was awesome. Loved the ease of cold starting without a choke. Gas mileage was also the best on the market. Then went on to the 2005 Rev X 600 SDI which was the same sled with 19 MPG and again awesome ditch banging ability. Through those couple years of owning revs I rode my buddies 2003 RX1 which I loved because of the motor, Hated the seat (Too thin) and rear suspension (Too Harsh of ride). Then for 2006 Yamaha released the all new Apex gt with new seat design and the mono shock rear suspension. This is gotta be what I was waiting for. I always felt Yamaha lacked in the rear suspension category in previous years with there RX1 but had that awesome 1000 4 stroke motor. SO, I decided to jump ship and try this new yamaha out. Well needless to say I loved it although the rear was a little soft to my standards coming off all my years with ski-doo with there X package. In the really rough stuff it would bottom out alot trying to run with my buds in the gnarly stuff. But you would expect that from the GT model. So I found this website "TotallyYamaha" and started looking up suspension help. Found out you could stiffen up the rear on the GT with a bigboy spring upgrade. Well that was the ticket for me. I was totally happy now. Hit the Tughill trails for a ride with the new spring setup and what a huge huge difference. (Anyone who knows how Tughill N.Y. gets on the weekends that’s pretty impressive). Most all my buddies I ride with own Revs. (So I did get ribbed on at first jumping ship like I did). But when they saw that I could ride just as fast as them with my new found yamaha apex there ridicule ended. All I heard was, Let me try that sled out. So I did. And none of them had anything bad to say. I do know 100% of the time when I let someone ride my sled they always step off saying ( And I know you guys can relate to this) I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS A 4 STROKE !!! SMOOTH ENDLESS POWER. :4STroke: And they always say how smooth this motor is compared to a 2 stroke twin. No vibration is always nice on high mile days. One of the biggest advantages of this sled is when I take a high mile trip with all the guys I watch them start to pack & squirrel away quart after quart of oil anywhere they can store it. Under the hood, trunk, etc.. etc... Hey can you carry a quart for me. Who me??? My days of worrying about oil are over. I switch with the guys now and then but notice vibrations I never noticed on all my ski-doo’s up until I rode yamaha. The seating position on the rev chassis is now to drastic and leaves me feeling locked in to one seating position and I find myself trying to move around trying to find a comfy spot. For me the apex is the all around great ride and I recommend one to anyone who wants to rid themselves of the added 2 stroke oil expense and get great gas mileage as well. To make this long story short either sled is an excellent choice but I wouldn't go back to the rev even though Ski-doo is still an awesome machine to own. I have found a new home with Yamaha.

Hope this wasn't toooooo Long ;)!

I have both, 06Apex gt and 05 MXZ 800X I like both. Apex rules on smooth trails and long rides of 200 plus miles. Rev rules on rough trails Seat to soft on apex GT. If your considering a Mach Z I wouldnt bother just get the apex. I might consider a new 800 rev next year when they come out with the 800R engine in the short track

Couldn't of said it better myself !!!
I'm also considering buying an other rev to just ride harder in the twisty bumpy stuff.
If you get the chance to ride a 07 RTX with the ProActive suspension you may not waste your time going back to the Doo. I rode the 07's back in march and there was a huge difference between the mone and the ProActive suspensions. I only weigh 155 and bottomed the Mono out continuously on small woops, but later on when the woops were huge I was able to slam the ProActive RTX through the woops and wooped out corners without ever bottoming.
If I was to jump ship, it would deffinitly be to Doo, but after riding the Apex, I dont see that happening anytime soon.
I have heard the samething about the Mach , has a similar riding position as the Apex but feels a little more like a tank in the trails. But this is not from personal experience.
Good luck in your decision.

I am between sleds right now, I would like an answer from somone with experience on Apex as well as rev. I Hated the ergo of my old ZR, and liked the ergo on my brothers Rev. My other brother rides a Polaris XC, didn't like the chassis but loved his M-10. How does the rider forward on the Apex compare to the Rev chassis? How are the rides similar or different? Please keep brand loyalty out of your answers, I just want experience answers.
Thanks

Go with the Apex. I would not be surprised if the Rev platform changes next season to a more comprimising design, similare to the Apex. Skidoo is due for a change and they always like to copy some one elses success. :yam:
Where are you coming from? What did ski-doo copy from anyone on the REV?

Yamaha Sno-Scoot.... :ORC

All the manufacturers have made advances. All have copied as well. Ski doo is no different.

I agree, but but the REV was so advanced, that everyone else has copied the rider forward. I don't believe they took it from the Sno_scoot.

Maybe so.......but i like yamahas version of "rider forward" a hell of alot better than ski-doo. ;)!

They did not copy. You have to give credit to were credit is due and the Rev certainlly deservs that. But they are changeing. What about the RT? Lowering the front end? Its just my guess, but I think they will change the Rev Chassis to a lower more relaxed seating postion, simnilare to the Apex or RT. Not as high and tippy.

The thing I hated most about the ZR chassis is my knees were 2-4 inches above my a$$. This was way hard on my back. I don't care a ton about cornering on rails, I want comfort for those 150 mile days. If I go Apex it will have a supercharger. If I go Ski Doo, it will be Mach with longer front shocks (if they fix their ecu problems). I love speed, but I am getting to the point where comfort is a bigger factor!

I went from a ZR800Le to a REV 600X to a RX1ER to an Apex GT. If I had the handling of the ZR, with the ride position of the Apex, I think I'd have the perfect sled. All that said, the Apex is far and away the best big mile sled I've ever owned. Comfort is where its at on the Apex, and it's screwed together better than any sled I've owned. The REV is probably the best for bashing big bumps, but its not as stable high speed as the others, and after long days in the saddle, I'm not liking my knees stuck in one position all day.

my last trip was a 500 mile day, I was ready to go the next day but my buddy's 06 mach Z split the muffler down the seam. I'll be holding onto my Apex ER for a few years. PS I'm 6'6, the rev pushes you forward more than the Apex, but when it gets rough slide as far forward as you can and you wont believe the difference. :yam: :4STroke:  :jump: welcome aboard

I own a 04 MXZ800x and a 06 Apex GT. I felt exactly how you feel and had the same questions you have. I am 32 years old and love to thrash in the bumps, go fast, or tour for an easy 200 mile ride. Buy the Apex!! If you decide on the Ski Doo let me know - I have a great deal for you. The only time my MXZ seems to move..... is when I need to get it out of the way to get the Apex out of the garage! Every time I've ridden the Apex - my cheek muscles hurt from smiling! Man that thing ROCKS!
