looking to buy my first used mid 2000 something 4 stroke yamaha.
will there be much difference in gas mileage between the two being the apex has more horsepower?
efi or carbs make much diffeance?
is a later year vector with efi a better choice than a carbed model and why or why not?

best trail sled out there is the apex 2011 or newer with power steering. if you want to save some the vector is bulletproof i would go with efi. apex 12-16 mpg vector 14-18 mpg. nothing beets the 4 holer though. reliability, stock power, mileage, just be sure to go with power steering with the apex. there is a difference.

Fuelly Vector is better on gas 6 to 8 bucks a tank. It burns regular. Set up right you don't need power steering. Handles better than an apex. I have both. If you can get an 11 or newer Apex with power steering, that would put a smile on your face as well. Both good machines. The 2010 Vector has the updated Mono as well as the fuel injection. Carbed Vector is good but doesn't' have the same power as the fuely.

Agreed with both above..the Apex with EPS is a power machine, the Vector EFI is a sporty machine.. and doesn't need the power steering as much as the apex

Guys I'm looking into apex as well does it require high octane fuel. May trade in viper also worried about riding position.

- Bought a new 05 Vector which I still have
24K miles
Just FYI - my 05 Vector carb gets a pretty consistent 16 mpg (I know there are folks out there getting better) on regular gas. Gets a little better when running premium (17'ish). 14 Vector EFI gets 16.5 - 18 mpg....again very consistent no matter if it regular or premium. I'm a trail rider but not a slowpoke. I'll give er' from time to time!

Curtis, do you mean the 2015 Viper in your picture? Are you not happy with it or pinching pennies when you say trade it in?

It wasn't what I thought I was getting sled has awesome riding position and handling just everytime I go out new issues. They are minor but for what I spent I'm a little upset. Going away for four days will decide when I come back and gas mileage has dropped 30 miles since new per tank at 118 now
