Even comparing wet weights is very deceiving in my opinion.
In reality, the only way to get accurate is to weigh sleds when their suspensions are all crusted up with 3 days worth of ice and packed snow, AND with the rider on board after his 4th Cheeseburger of the trip has just been swallowed...

Comparing apples to apples, you can add 25-30 lbs to the Cats weight if it had electric and reverse. 616+30=646 compared to 676. Hmmm.

You have to add the 17 lbs. to that 646 for the lighter silencer and that brings it up to 663, almost apples to apples.

I would say you now have it nailed. Yeah the 4 cyl 4 stroke motor weighs a good 30 lbs more, but some of that is made up for with use of titanium and magnesium.

Interesting thread here....
fourload
TY 4 Stroke Master
I want a weigh in of a fully loaded mach and a fully loaded f1000lxr. I bet these sleds are within pounds of the apex that they were making fun of for being heavy. Ironic isn't it ???. Put the lighter 2 stroke engine in the apex and I bet it will be 20 or 30 lbs lighter than the above sleds. This says alot about yamaha and their technology......

so true fourlord. It is truly a remarkable accomplishment that the four strokes are indeed apples to apples, or give or take a 12 pack of beer of being the same weight as the comparable 2 stroke competitors.

welterracer said:THe studs and wheel kit added about 15-20lbs to the sled
Cat comes with 4 wheels and we have the same amount of studs.
What did the zr weight??? I know they are about 515 dry..
Yes, thats the claimed dry weight
rupprider said:So, if you weigh 200# and the zr guy weighs 260#, you're even.
I`m about 10 pounds more than him
SledFreak said:and you have about 15 more hp, then he does.
Nope.
BA APEX said:how far can he go with same ammount of fuel?
Apex gets better mileage, kinda irrelivent unless everyone in the group is getting that kind of mileage.
pat the rat said:did the zr have elec start and reverse like yours
I don`t want electric start and/or reverse
Now let me say this. Bigger Hammer and I are friends and co-workers. If you want to hate me and/or ban me from here I really don`t care (don`t take it out on him is all I`m sayin). He mentioned to me about this post so I checked it out and couldn`t help but to reply to it.
I have 4 Yams now (bikes) out in the shed right now, so I don`t hate Yams I just don`t want a 4 stroke sled. If I wanted or had to have a 4 stroke sled it would be a Apex hands down.
I`m not here to cut your Yams down. But you(s) have added 47 pounds to my sled and it still weighs 616 on the scale.......
And to cap on this quote

It would seem that biggerhammer needs a lesson as to which one the throttle is . Even ZR9's aren't even close...nevermind an 8.
Otherwise you make some good points 4 strokes aren't for everyone, obviously or we'd all be riding the same sled. Comparing weights of two differently equiped sleds is pointless but I'm very surprised that they are that close.

firsttimecatman, the point we are making is that the other comparably equipped sleds in the Apex catergory are not too far off in weight. Also lets compare stock sled performance, not moded sleds. Stock for stock who would win......the Apex, I know because I ride with one and it’s not even a race. Now your sled is piped, an increase in HP and reduced weight. I'm not sure what HP you’re running but there is a kit for the Apex that includes a new cam and head porting that will take the apex up to 185 hp and I know your sled is not pushing that kind of HP. At that HP you will not be able to touch the Apex, besides even with the mods on the Apex, it will still be more reliable than any 2 smoker without any.
