Is this the dreaded track noise/drone I've read about in the posts, or do I have a problem?
New to me, 2011 Apex XTX, clean w/1300 miles on it. First couple runs, thin snow, not enough space to run faster.
Cruising about 40 MPH. Got a Wah..Wah..Wah noise that changed with speed, and coincided with each track rotation. Got 4 studs in every other bar on this 144" with 57 bars. Because 57 is an odd number and I studded every other, there is one area that has 2 open bars side by side. Could this create a weight imbalance, or lead to the Wah..Wah..Wah.. on each rotation?
SIDE NOTE: I'm a Lifelong Yamahead. Wow does this sled pull harder than my old ported SRX 700. Big footprint, big torque….Still smiling.

Sounds like the standard noise to me. Some say they have it, some say they don't, others say they had it and it went away. The dreaded drone is usually determined by how annoying is it. You'll know if you have it. The solution is to NOT set your cruise control at 40 mph.

I just changed my track (ripsaw) with a talon 35 so I'll see if that drone is still there next week. I pipe music threw my communicator on my week long trip just because of that drone so maybe this will be quieter, maybe. We will see.

I had an 2011 Apex xtx, track, driveline super quiet and one incredibly fast sled! Got a new 2015 Apex xtx and it has that dreaded track noise, drive me nuts. Completely different sled vs the 11 but it is the same sled go figure. I’m pretty sure it’s a shitty track or crappy build of the track , it’s like there’s a stiff section in the track and with the sled in the air spinning the track at low mph you can see and feel the track vibration with every revolution.
I would have changed my track, but got a Sidewinder last year and I Kept the Apex as a spare sled.

my 11 has the drone at 35mph and it is on its 2nd ripsaw. when i scrap this one, most likely going to try a talon 1.5 on it.
