apex y pipe $88.93 new

I was out for a ride today and noticed my sled was backfiring when I let off the gas. I tore it down and noticed that there is a big crack in the y pipe. I found new y pipe for $88.93 part number 8FP-14610-00-00. I also found part number 8FR-14610-00-00 for $178.00. What is the differance? I had it off this summer to replace the gaskets and had a crack in the one on the clutch side but had it welded. Now the other side has a crack and dose not look like I can weld it. Should I buy both or just the one I need. I dont want to have to do this agin next year but I realy don't want to spend $178 each. Please help

The new part # that is $178.00 is an updated part from Yamaha. I believe they added a snow deflector and now charge double for that extra little piece.

Cut the flanges off the Y pipes and have a muffler shop make you 4 new flanges out of normal exhaust pipe about 2.5 inches long, fit them over the Ypipe and then take them to a welding shop to get them TIG welded on, the hard part here is finding a shop with TITANIUM filler rods they are the ONLY rods that will work, the Y pipes can't be miged, soldered or chrome moly welded, we tried them all at one of the best shops around and the only thing that worked was titanium rods. Total cost was 60 bucks and the sled is working great, 500kms since the repairs.

I have welded half a dozen of the ti pipes and haven't had one come back broken yet.

Amazing the rip off between the two pipes. How can it be 100 bucks more for that little piece of nothing?? I changed mine last week,88$ for an old SS and 182$ for SS with flange. I sure am glad the snows not gonna get on the Dounut or the flange anymore.

Can you still get the old style at your source?? I would do that. I would not waste my $ welding the ti ones. The new pipes(both #,s) are S.S., and will last much better. If you can only get the new part#, there are cheaper places like cheapartswarehouse.com.

I think I would spring for the Excel headers before I bought the new Yamaha ones at $178 each. Might as well get a performance gain for the money.

I ordered the new y pipes for $88.93 each. A few hours later,the order was canceled. It said it was replaced by a new 8FR number. The new price is $204.67. What a joke. I ordered the new part number from my dealer for $148.00 each. It is going to cost me $350+ with tax and new gaskets. There is a Winterfest going on in my town (Sand Lake Michigan) and Hope to have my parts Friday so I can run in the 500 ft drags. How long do the new y pipes last? Do I need to replace the gaskets every 3000 miles still? Is there any thing I can do to hepl them last longer? Thank you
