I was tinkering with the back up sled the other night (03 RX-1 Mtn.) and in the past I had noticed small arc from the coil to the valve cover, I detached the coils and cleaned them as best as I could and claened the openings for the spark plugs, then wrapped the very upper end of the coil with a couple wraps of electrical tape to tighten the fit ot coil into the valve cover. I still noticed small arcs but not as bad as before. My question is do they all do this? If not is there a way to cure the problem other than buying new coils?

It is a flawed design corrected in, I think, '04. Some guys here clean and dielectric grease them but if you don't start this early and often they start to wear. Check out the plugs, you will likely see little grooves worn into the tip. Once the little clip that actually contacts the plug wears out from arcing I don't think that it will ever be right. Watch EBay for '04 or later coils, otherwise the dealer will hit you for $300+ for all of them.
