Just took my brand new 2009 ltx gt on its maiden voyage this weekend and man do I love this thing!! I have been riding for about 18 years and I can honestly say that this sled is the best I've ever had ... now I'm gonna take it back to the dealer for its 500 mile check up( we put on 460 in the U..P) ... my concern is the tach. from a dead dig it climbs to about 10.200 and then maxes out at 10.600 rpms after about 90 miles per hour . is this normal or should I say someting to my dealer ... I thought I read somewhere , guys were getting close to 11,000 rpm's ... are the new ones different?

With everything stock you are about perfect but with only 500mi it may be a bit high as it will gain some more RPM yet. The one's running higher need some clutch changes to get there and should not be running 11,000 if everything is stock. They start to pull timing at 10,800. If everything is working properly and is all stock they will come out just over 10,000 and gain RPM to about 10,500 to 10,600 on top. Yes your tack could be off some. kviper

thanks ! thats why I love this site and the instant help that anyone can get ...I also wanted to add that this thing just rocks! there are two Dragon 800 in our group and they jump out to a 1 sled lead outa the hole but the apex passes them with ease and never looks back....after blowing up my last two poo's and not getting a lick of help from polaris .. I bleed blue forever!!!!

Set your transfer to max and get on some real good hard pack and have some Dragon lunch out of the hole as well. Your Apex has much more Torque at clutch engagement than the two smokes so you are blowing the track out from under the sled and it takes longer to hook up. kviper

Give it some time, i.e. miles. Your Apex hasn't even woke up yet. The RPMs will increase....

Mine is bone stock, clutching, intake, exhaust...and pulls between 10.700 in loose snow and on a hard packed condition pulls to 11.000...highest speed I`ve seen on GPS is 109mph.

Give her a few miles to loosen up...

I was running across a lake today and for the first time was watching where the tach was. Dead on at 11000. Belt has 5000 miles on it. 122 was my top speed on speedo...10,000 miles on sled.

Dude! you just dont know how that sounds to us newbees to the four stroke world 10,000 miles thats so awesome and the fact that it still pulls 11,000 rpm's is equally impressive ....but once again to us former two smokers, 10,000 MILES its like saying I went to the moon on a paper airplane..LOL.....WILL BLEED BLUE FOREVER!!!!

optimal rpm's is 10,800 on top..your past due...change your belt!

Yeah I know I need to change it! End of season maint. Solid year for me and the sled but I did have my first issue of the season...Pivot arm broke today....after run on lake.

4700 miles this year = 1 oil change and 1 idler wheel. And now it needs a pivot arm....but I'm probably done for the year so no bigger.

:4STroke: :yam:

Oh yeah, my 2000 SXR has 9800 miles with no issues so if we get more snow..... :)

I know it is hard to do but you really should take it easy for the first 500 or so miles. When they get to about 1000 miles they really wake up big time!

10,800 is optimal. If you go past this you are not at peak power.

My 08 LTX was a tight dog. Max rpm on freshly groomed snow was 10100 and now with 2200kms it hits 11k No prob i gotta throw some weight in her.

check ur belt...or back off the secondary spring 10 degrees

was at the dealer for the 500 mile checkup and he said ( the mechanic 30 plus years experience) that somewhere between 1,000 and 1,500 miles, a resistor ( or something to that effect ) burns away or expires allowing the the engine to achieve max horsepower and rpms....Kinda sorta like an electronic governor ....maybe to safeguard the engine during break-in ..sounds cool but I've never read anything like that here , but I have heard more than one person say that after 1,000 miles the Apex's come alive
