I have a buddy who just sold his REV 600 to buy a SNOW HAWK.. after getting to ride one and just seeing the new ones coming out he said he had to have one...

I asked if they were trail legal.. HE CLAIMS YES..

Anyone know for sure??

An article earlier this year had a report from Bovin that said they were legal, it was in one of the rags. It stated if I remember that they had a head and tailight for the new ones coming out and would suffice for the trail. I know in the past couple years I have past a few on the trails in the UP. I must admit they did seem squirly and somewhat out of control looking but that could be just the way they look as they absorb the bumps. Hey as long as they stay on their side I could care less what a person rides as long as it has skis and a track. NO FOUR WHEELERS ON THE TRAILS ie. ruts suck.

The snow hawk is legal to ride on trails here in Ontario. If a vehicle is registered for use on snow it can be used as long as you have a valid snowmobile pass.

I was told by him that they top out at 70mph.. A LITTLE SLOW FOR ME!!

he also said they are drivin by a cog belt that is torque controled (a clutch will not let all the torque go to the belt..) If too much torque is felt the clutch will slip.. Kinda neet!!

I don't know how safe it would be to go over 70 on one of those things... If you loose your hook on the ski, its centered, so you could easily go over. 2-ski sleds at least will remain upright, even if both skis loose hook.

They're probably really great for the trails, narrow, so less likely to get in my way. Garbage motors though.

Interesting question...I know that the 4 wheelers (the one's with tracks instead of wheels) are not legal on the sled trails. I just read that one somewhere.

The snowhawk is trail legal according to AD Boivin's website. I rode one last year and agree with LB. You don't want to go over 50 much less 70 on a trail until you have quite a bit of experience. Now in the powder these things  . Most fun I ever had in 30+ inches of powder bar none. I wish I has some pics of me on that thing but I don't. Falling off in powder does suck though; you think climbing on a sled sucks try getting on a unstable snow vehicle when you are staring straight at the foot pegs :o|
