Just thinking on our 07 Attaks that we'll adjust the clip on the shock for the heavy weights!
I've never changed the clips before.
Where are you heavy guys putting the 3 clip setting & your spring 8 cam settings?
I've got 270s & 220s & 210s for weights!
THANKS GUYS!

At 240 I put my clip in the middle position. Don,t forget the dial on the tunnel goes 2 full turns. Lotsa guys go 1 turn & stop & there is way more adjustment there. No issues with bottoming set up like that. Another local guy is 310 & his on the 3rd clip works great for him. Gotta find a Jenny Craig!!!!!!!

So let me get this straight. In addition to the adjustment on the "bottom" of the shock that you use the spaner tool for, you can also reposition the top of the spring on the shock body to give it more preload? I have an RTX and I was just going to get the stiffer spring. How much does moving the spring on the clips do?

I run the spring cam on stock setting. There is a 3 position clip under the rear spring. You have to compress the spring to get at the clip. It is set at 1(lightest) from the factory but needs to be at 2 or 3 according to rider weight.

I'll start with the clip in the #2 spot & spring cam at 6 for the 270LBS!
I'll start with the clip in the #2 spot & spring cam at 3 for the 220LBS!
I'm still not sure about the 210s guys?!?!

If you're aggressive riders I'd consider moving up 1 spring for the 210/220 guys and possibly 2 for the 270 rider.
Subtract two cam positions from as starting points for heavier springs. 210/220 is close enough you will probably be able to run the same settings.
Fine tune the cam position next season.
BTW, Kevin at Port Yamaha posted these numbers earlier:
8FU-47489-20-00 SPRING 1 (K=29.4N/MM) Optional softer than stock spring Retail roughly $200
8FU-47489-00-00 SPRING 1 (K=44.1N/MM) Stock on Apex ER/RTX
8FT-47489-00-00 SPRING 1 (K=49.0N/MM) Stock on Attak
8FU-47489-10-00 SPRING 1 (K=63.7N/MM) Spring in Accessory Catalog for Apex ER/RTX - Retails for $99.95
8FT-47489-10-00 SPRING 1 (K=68.6N/MM) Spring in Accessory Catalog for Attak -Retails for $99.95
8FU-47489-30-00 SPRING 1 (K=78.5N/MM) Optional extremely heavy spring Retail roughly $200
Stock will give the most comfortable ride if you're willing to take the bigger bumps at slower speeds or standing up to avoid bottoming out.

On my Attack, I found that on 5th position (cam), it was the most confortable but as you say, I had to watch and stand up for the big ones. On my 05 rx-1, I tried moving the clip to second positon and it was too stiff. Tell me, how a stiffer sprng compare at (let say first position on the cam) to a stock spring at the second clip position? Isn't it better to change the spring because that way you do not shorten its travel?
Finally, on a GT, will it be possible and or easier or better for confort in all conditions, mean stutter bumps and big ones at high speed?

On my attak I put the heavier spring on and run the cam one notch up from full soft. Works great with only a bottom out once in a great while. I feel if you never bottom on occasion you aren't using your full suspension travel. With the stock spring and cam on full it bottomed way too much. I weighed 235# without gear with these settings. Dropped 20# since then, so may have to play around with settings next year.

I'm 270-280lbs depending on how many beers that day!!!
I had stock spring at 7th cam slot & didn't bottom out alot the first 2000 miles, but the next 1000 miles I sure did start bottoming more!
Thats why I thought I'd set everyone up right from the start next year!!!
Anyone know what changing the clip one notch does for the weight rating?
THANKS!

On my RTX I run the Fat Boy spring with the clip in the middle, and the cam at #4. I'm pushing 235 with gear on. No bottoming out anymore and it is still soft enough for the wife to ride..
