I took the sled around the yard a bit today (not enough snow for trails yet, bummer), and the first time I let off the throttle the engine sounded like it backfired through the airbox very violently (not an exhaust pop). After, the engine stumbled for a split second and then ran fine. The sled is a 2006 RTX, 4000 miles, 300 on new y-pipes and donuts. i let the sled fully warm up (low idle) before I took off. The sled is stock except an Ulmer stage 2 clutch kit. Any ideas? Should I be worried at all?

If this is your first time running the sled I would guess its just burning some condensation from inside the motor or intake from sitting. I would run some seafoam through with some fresh gas and then see how its acting. My guess is its nothing to worry about.

I see you're in Rochester. Come on up and ride, trails are great up here...

Old fuel will do many things. Burn off the old crap and you will probably see a major difference in the sled. My Daughters RX1 seems even more susceptible to poor fuel than the fuel injected but still runs like sh$t till fresh fuel is in it.

Yup, The fuel sitting in the carbs makes it worse than the FI models. Usually a can of sea foam and some good gas and its like new again, unlike a 2 stroke which may just blow up if you try to burn out the old fuel. Been there done that... LOL. I think if you ride it some it will be fine... Check and make sure your airbox is still clamped to the throttle bodies. The backfire could have blown it off.

Suck it out the old s--- and put in new fuel with a good dose of sea-foam.bad fuel can also take out plugs and that would suck. :o|

Fresh plugs would be a good idea too. Might as well add a few ponies and go with ngk CR10EK's. You can get a set of 4 on amazon for about $25.00 shipped.

Yup, I installed my cr10ek's, Not sure if I noticed anything but everyone says they pick the sled up a couple HP..

Run it a bit more, if it continues I would check the header pipes carefully. Mine cracked and I didn't notice the first time around. Probably just old fuel but like I said if it continues might e worth a look.
