Bad experience with a repair shop in Old Forge. (S....... S... Shed)

I would dispute the charges to. That's a good idea. Leaving bad reviews is good also. People read those.
 

Next time try North Street!!
 
Not sure. All I know is the throttle cable sleeve was not in the hole by the flipper.

I had exhaust donuts replaced on my 2003 RX1 at a repair shop in Old Forge. When I went to pick up the sled, it started and ran fine. I got on, pulled forward and started to turn left. The sled accelerated out of control and I slammed into a truck about 30 feet away and was thrown from the sled. It continued to rev at wide open throttle until I hit the kill switch.
When I told the owner what just happened he and a mechanic came out to look at the the sled. They started it and it revved until they hit the kill switch. They pulled it from under the pickup an opened the hood. Not finding anything there they removed the pad at the handle bars and found that the throttle cable wasn't seated properly in the lever holder assembly. This allowed the throttle to operate normally until you turned the handlebars to the left which tightened the cable to near full throttle.
The shop will not take any responsibility for this whatsoever stating that the cables on Yamaha's pop out like that occasionally. REALLY??!! They had to disassemble the steering column to remove the gas tank to replace the exhaust donuts. It is just a coincidence that this happened on the first attempt to ride the sled after they performed the work???? I'm lucky I didn't get killed!!
I had to go through my insurance company. The sled was totaled. It cost $677 to replace the donuts. They then had the balls to charge $1800 in storage fees.
This says volumes about the person who owns this business and I warn all of you not to use them. PM me and I will be happy to fill in the blanks about the name of the shop.

My dealer replaced my exhaust donuts & clamps in 2 hrs. Your dealer ripped you off on the price to replace your donuts.

T.O.R.S. stops the engine starting if the throttle isn't closed when you start it. Sounds like this problem only occured when the handlebars were turned one way after starting. To the sled it would have looked like a normal start followed by heavy acceleration.
 
T.O.R.S. Throttle. Over. Ride. System.
Does not prevent you from starting the sled. There to prevent a "runaway" condition

TORS is a safety feature incorporated into the ecu that basically retardes the engine so it cant rev past 3000 rpm. Theory being that the clutches wont engage in that rpm range so your sled wont go for a "ghost ride". There are 2 switches involved with the system. One is at the throttle body rack. The other is located at the throttle perch ( inside) activated by the flipper lever for the throttle. Take a look and you will notice the pivot pin holding the lever in place actually sits in an elongated hole. Most common cause of the TORS to activate is an issue with the throttle cable itself. If the switches detect any abnormality, TORS will activate.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience.
This forum is not a vehicle for public bashing nor slander. It is a forum to help inform fellow Yamaha sled heads.
If you feel that more action is needed I would encourage you to do so privately and legally.
 
It would seem to me that he was informing fellow Yamaha heads. I don't think anybody was bashing, I just think some accountability is in order

Absolutely! It was/is not my in my intention to bash and or slander (the action or crime of making a false spoken statement damaging to a person's reputation) anyone. This is a true account. Thanks again.
 
I did the same thing to myself Monday evening!
Installed 2" pivot riser, and after that the sled ran rough and only backfired. Throttle cable looked closed.
Bypassed TORS to troubleshoot, started sled...

I managed to do a giant dive and barely caught the kill switch with the end of my finger as it was leaving quickly!
I had the throttle cable caught right by the flipper. I had bypassed TORS and put it into "ballistic missile mode".

Sorry about your luck, glad you didn't get hurt. I hope the shop owns up to what they did.
