My friend bought a 03 RX1 with a CPR turbo last spring . He decided to install low compression pistons in it over the summer. He took it for its first trail ride last weekend. Made it 20 miles when the motor locked up. He was at idle when it went. Never tried the boost, he was just putting on some miles to prove the motor first.

Tore the motor down and it dropped an intake valve. Looks like a keeper failed. Ate his head and piston. Did not touch the cylinder. He is sending the head to Simmon to see what needs to be done.

Any one heard of this problem? Sure is a stroke of bad luck! He has modded sleds for many years with great luck on performance and liability.

Thanks

Yea that sucks, i think stock motor with race fuel is the way to go.

Yup, it likely is at this point. But unfortunately for a person wanting to put on 2500miles on their T-Apex this is not a reality. On the trails in Northern Quebec you can't get Race fuel!!!! It's a bugger to have to go back to the trailer every 80miles (smaller gas tank on many turbo kits) and fill up with Race fuel!!!!

I'm thinking that something didn't get put back together quite right. It's real easy to bend a valve just by turning the engine over by hand if things aren't lined up perfect. I know this from experience, Ken.

He did not have the valves out of it. Also if the timing jumped it would have ate more than one cylinder.

did he have the head off, did he forget to make sure all the adjuster shims were back in place properly, befor installing cams, if one slipped it would take out a valve.I would guess thats what happened, especially with just one valve.
