Thought I would share The carnage of my Nytro motor after the return oil line to the oil tank failed.
After 4,000 miles of trouble free use, I lost the motor at the TY give-a-way ride a few weeks ago.
I was running down the trail at around 50 MPH, when the sled shut it's self off.
The oil sensor had turned the motor off, but not before the motor had pumped all of its oil out.
The return oil line where it comes thru the frame had failed and allowed it to pump out all the oil.
My riding buddies ran into the closest town and brought me back oil to refill.
I refilled the motor and everything seemed all right, I thought it had shut down soon enough to save it's self?
Well after going about 3 miles it started to have a slight tick, that soon turned into a knock and then boom, a big puff of smoke and it was done.
We pulled it apart last weekend to see what had happened.
The skirts broke off the side of the piston and then the piston tried to rotate. One valve head was broken off and the other 3 are at about a 25-30 degree angle pushed up into the head!
The windage pan also had a small hole broke thru it.
Surprisingly enough the rod was in one piece and didn't go thru the block.
The pic of the hose is to show where it tore open, right behind the clamp and the frame.

The only reason I can see that might have helped cause this failure is that when the oil tank is moved out the inch or so to clear the blowers pulley and belt, that maybe that puts a slight pulling pressure on the hose and it time it tore?
If you are running this set up, inspect your hoses and maybe extend them just slightly.

I have since located a motor out of a wrecked 2015 Viper with less than a 1,000 miles on it and swapped it into the sled.

Hope this little write up will help someone else from having the same troubles as it did to me.

Holy #*$&@ Dan! I had the same exact problem last year with my hose but my engine shut down before any damage occurred. But just like you. my hose split open and oil was everywhere. I blamed the valve on the roll over kit but never verified that.

I had the oil return line fail on mine also, turbo app tho. On my kit the return is untouched and not modified. Yamaha covered it, gave me a new hose, refilled the motor, 3-5 miles later, BOOM! Then Yamaha paid for the motor and I had to pick up the labor and 2 pistons/rods with related bearings.

Notice how the return line is only silicone?? I used a threaded line when I reinstalled the motor and made sure to flush ALL the oil lines and tank before refilling and running. Then made sure to do 3 oil filter and oil changes in the first 10 miles. I wasn't going to risk contaminated oil back in the new motor.

What sucks is that you can't get the crank turned and get undersized bearing for it.

Ken...........

I'm not sure about the Nytro but Yamaha only makes standard bearings for the RX1. I hade a oil filter come loose and took out my crank and ended up buying a used engine to get it running again.
