I did this mod and rode the sled in various conditions. I rode on an icy road, in 2-3 foot powder and on groomed trails. the front end seemed much more stable and I am much more comfortable on the sled and I focus on my riding and not the sled. Thanks for the detailed pics of your work, but if I were you, I'd take a good long look at the last pic you posted and work on fixing that problem as well. Notice your shock position between the upper a arm...

Which pic? what looks funny to you? If its the locktite pic the ball joint is not connected to the spindle yet. the nut goes on then i attached the spindle. if thats the pic the a arm is resting on the shock . ps the muffler job you did rocks! The picture that you have labelled "before" it looks like the shock is getting close to the rear of your a-arm. It could be the angle of your camera but could also be a bent subframe. I assume thats what Nytromaniac is getting at.

I'll have to give it an another look I did roll this sled prior to this mod but the dealer said it was straight the bars are a little bent. I believe that the picture is crooked because of the way I stand taking this picture. My driveway is on a steep hill so when i'm in the trailer I have to lean back to stand. it looks fine to me. Mine are BOTH like that.. THey are NOT centered in there fron the start...

Both shocks should be centered, checked a brand new sled myself just to be sure. Sorry guys, you have something bent as well. This would explain why some of you aren't noticing it. Mine was tweaked on both sides equally too, but I knew something was wrong when steering changed. When I noticed that both skis were pointing down (while suspended) I knew something had changed, so then I looked into the subframe topic on here, and eventually put it all together.
Bill, your camera angle is very close to birds eye view, so I'd be willing to bet that when you check your shock position, it's quite a bit closer to the rear of the upper a arm. Compare it to the other side and let us know if there's a difference. For everyone else, if your shocks aren't centered, you have a tweak in your front end, no question about it !

My right side is tweaked...Has been for a few weeks now. My spring even went so far as to hit the a-arm and cause paint transfer. I haven't done anything about it yet. I guess I'm holding some hope that Yamaha will own up or that someone will discover the cause and give us a better idea of what we should be fixing.
Having said all that, I'm not gonna come on here and tell you that I tweaked mine going 5MPH or anything. I ride relatively hard, and I'm pretty sure I tweaked mine on a small ascent. I wasn't going fast, but when you go from any speed to zero in an instant, somethings got to give.
I've been tempted to hook on to a tree (lower a-arm), put her in reverse and give her a small jolt, but I'd really like to know where the weak point is and fix it before I put a band-aid fix in place.

interesting, ,both shocks are not centered on mine, they never have been. I didn't think new sled was dead nuts centered either, are you sure about this maniac..?.

Acutally I just put a new clip in mine and now the shocks are crowding to the front of the arms instead of the rear as they were with the bent front section.

Mine has been alittle closer to the rear of the upper arm since new. Dont know if it got bent on the shippment but I doubt it. I will have mine to my dealer soon to change lower balljoint and I will talk to them about it. Have to wait and see.

Interesting how there's so much inconsistency with this sidetracked topic. (btw sorry Bill) All I can tell you is I looked over a new one on the showroom floor and the shocks were centered, my neighbours was centered, and mine sit further back and change all the time. This topic has been dragged out so long, I think we're all just frustrated with the lack of response/action that our minds and memory are tweaked too...
