I need to charge the battery in my Vector (its dead).
1. I don't HAVE to remove the battery to charge it correct? (simply attach to the leads?)
2. Its just a standard "wet" battery correct?
3. Just utilize the 2 amp trickle charge for best results?
4. What voltage should I see to indicate that its fully charged?
Thanks

I can answer some of your questions:
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. don't know. I would just watch the trickle go down to <1 amp for a while then shut it off. What's a fully charged battery....12.8v or somethig like that? A place like AutoZone should be able to tell you.
I know this wont help but I bought an Optimate III and spliced in a longer cord so I could leave the sled plugged in all the time and keep the charger in the garage. Optimate said that this was OK to splice the cord in as you have to keep the charger out of the elements.
Another thought -- it's easy to get at the battery...maybe you want to to check your connections? As you've no doubt heard, you want to make sure you get all the tubes reconnected to the airbox.

Not sure if you can charge off the leads. The book says you can jump the sled of the leads. It seems logical you could charge it thru the leads. 2amp would be best for any small 12 volt batteries. It seems like full charge should be around 14 amp on the meter. I've installed Optimiun II trickle charger on mine to keep full charge. That is the only draw back of the 4 stroke: Electric start and no recoil. However, no sure if I would want to try pull over motor by hand.
Tfin,
I would use a higher charge rate at first. I have one charge that set on trickle will not revive a dead battery.

Put mine on 6 amp for an 1/2 hour then went to trickle charge; off the jumper leads, battery runs great..
Read the owners manual and then it stated nothing higher than a 1.8 ooops

Got a voltmeter into my dash this season.
The system regulator keep the running voltage quite high... 13.8v
.....and yes, 1.8 amp charging.

Did you get a new battery? What brand? Just curious. If you do add the Optimate, make sure to go with the Optimate III. PM me if you want details of my custom install and modification of the wiring. Makes the whole thing REAL easy.

Haven't gotten the new battery yet....still attempting to charge the existing one. I've been using the tricle charge (2 amps) for maybe 10 or so hrs. Then after letting the battery sit for 30 min its still only reading 12.4 V on my meter (shop manual states 12.7 or less needs more charging and 12.8 or more is fully charged.
Going to try charging some more tonight when I get home. If that doesn't do it....then a new battery it is.
I'll be sure to get the Optimate III. Once I do, I'll remember your offer for the setup...thanks.
