My son-in-law was here for a couple of days and had an interesting question for me.........this is the son-in-law with the Mtn perfomance supercharger on his 03 RX-1 LE short-track. Seems he hit the kill switch on his sled one time near the end of last season and then turned the key off and left it for three or so weeks. When he went back to start it again, the battery was dead. This is one of those ultrelightweight gel batteries.

Anybody ever heard of this sequence causing problems? OR, was this just the three elapsed weeks and the inherent less-power of the lightweight battery?

Not the sequence. Check the battery circuit with a mili-ammeter in line and see if here is any current beng drawn with the switches in the off position. If there is, something is drawing power and draining the battery. Then you may have a bad switch(s) or a current path before the switch(s).

What is being used for a charger? Unless your using something like an opti-mate, the batteries do not last long. An optimate has special charging cycles that keep the Gels cells charged.

LT,

Thanks for the response. Hadn't checked back for a while. He does use an Opti-mate most of the time. Why not this time, I can't tell you.

I don't know.......now that we live 600 mi. away from central OH I only see a lot of him during the season :-o He had asked me quite a while back to pose this question and let him know of any responses. He's registered on here also but is just a part-time lurker. And it's more difficult for him since they moved further into the country 2 months ago and service with his new ISP is "spotty". To answer your question though, I don't think he's done anymore with it until time to get ready for riding season.
