I have just finished my 2nd season with my 05 rx1. How often have you found it necessary to replace the battery. I used to ride motorcycles and had to change about every 2nd year. I actually had to tow my bike about 2 miles once because the battery was so bad.

I sold my wifes '98 vmax 500 with the original battery in it last Dec. My '99 vmax 700 still has the original battery in it. Take care of them and they will take care of you. All I do is check the acid level and charge it in the fall. I do use that trick battery charger that the dealers sell also.

On my 3 Vmaxes I have only changed 1 battery on 1 sled, a 99. The others are a 99 and an 01.

On my 03 Rx1 I didn't have to change prior to trading.

On my 05 Rx1, I am on my 3rd battery in under 1500 mi.

RedRX1 3 battries in 1500 mi. There has got to be a story in that. Have you replaced them we oem's or some thing different.

All OEM's I heard that if they leave the key on in the show room, the battery can not be brought completely back (marginal). I'm guessing the original had that problem although it was a spring order sled. I didn't see the box on the second battery and after hearing some talk I suspect that had the same problem. The third battery came in an unopened box, I followed the charging procedures, installed it myself, and it seems to work great. The first 2 never held a charge for more han a few days.

Yeah that 03 RX1 battery seems to just go on forever. Mines the original and I've never even had to charge it in the Fall. Just fire it up and run it.

I just completed year 3 on mine. Use an Optimate charger. These batteries need a special charging cycle. Otherwise they do not last long. Also, they have be fully and correctly charged when new. Otherwise they just run down in a few days. There are several threads in here on this topic.

My dealer says the 03 and 05 batteries are the same. I never had any problems in 03, but the of batteries have been junk. I had a moderately cold Canada trip -10 to -35 f, had to jump it every morning.
